Thanks, ladies. I have a couple of new recipes I want to try. Will use the plastic bag method. (or if I get a chance go buy crushed at Michael's)

I just yesterday did this for 2 recipes I made for my office party and I used the small candy canes and I put them in a vacuum seal bag (because its a bit thicker) and I smashed the heck out of them with my french rolling pin. Worked like a charm!

i also put them in a ziploc bag and smack em (relieves a lot of anger and stress LOL)

i also have broken the candy canes in half and chopped them up in a food chopper.

don't know if you have one, they look like this:

saves me from crying when chopping onions as well{#emotions_dlg.lol}

Just wanted to chime in that I've seen bags of crushed candy canes at my local Meijer grocery store. Nice and easy for all kinds of baked holiday goodies and on top of whipped cream on hot cocoa! I believe Brach's candy makes them. If you want to crush your own, I would pulse them in a food processor and use a sieve to get rid of any excess powder.

I'm not making my cookies that require crushed candy canes this year, however no matter how I do the crushing, I hate it! It's well worth the money to buy them pre-crushed which I will do the next time.
