Back in the 50's-60's sink shirts were really common.  Most of the homes in my neighborhood had them.

I don't remember seeing any that were frilly though.  They were mostly a printed or solid gathered cotton fabric with matching window curtains.

Its trying to integrate a bit of country style with contemporary which isnt working. The kitchen itself above the counter is contemporary. The curtain give it that country feel and look. But you're right, its not practicle at all.

I dont care for ruffles, so its a no for me.  I can vision that with spaghetti sauce all over it.

The only way it could be more impractical is if it needed dry cleaning.

Wouldn't last a hot second in a normal house.
