I'm looking for a cooking-related gift for an 8-year-old. She loves to work in the kitchen but her mom doesn't cook much, so it needs to be stuff she can enjoy on her own. Not saying her mom never cooks, just that it's not something she does often.

Her mom suggested something from the MasterChef Junior line since she loves the show, but there isn't much--maybe we just didn't think of that until it was almost sold out.

I've been looking on Amazon but most of it looks like it's for 4-6 year olds. Does anybody have any ideas? I only need to spend $20-$30 more on her Christmas gifts to keep in line with the other kids.

TIA,

Jane

Re: Cooking Tool Set for Kids

My youngest was interested in cooking from an early age and received a couple of kids cookbooks, which he used. The recipes weren't too complicated and included a variety of "kid friendly" foods. You could pair a cookbook with a kid sized apron (I know Williams Sonoma sells them, probably other places as well).

You can also find cooking "kits" for things like cookies (includes mix, cookie cutters, frosting & decorator tips) or cupcakes at places like Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I wouldn't focus so much on tools that are geared toward a child because an 8 year old can use wooden spoons, measuring cups, rolling pins, etc. that are intended for adults.

Good luck! If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Re: Cooking Tool Set for Kids

I bought my cousins daughter some ez recipe cookbooks for both entrees & desserts. I purchased her a nice apron, oven mitts, baking sheets, wooden spoons, scoops, cookie cutters& some sprinkles. Not much but put in a nice basket & she's turned into a great cook. Whenever I go to visit she always makes dinner (she's 16) and she always thanks me for her interest in cooking as her mom never enjoyed cooking (it's no secret my cuz isn't going to get the domestic goddess award but she's a great mom & wife!)
