I always do better with cookbooks at Amazon - and shipping is FREE.

I was interested in the ""Eat What You Love Every Day"" cookbook and found it on Amazon for $15.89 compared to QVC's $21.92 - with shipping you can get it in your hands for about what QVC's price of the cookbook is before shipping and tax...

While I have purchased a lot of cookbooks and other items on Amazon I don't know if getting Amazon Prime is a good idea for me. To get free shipping now you have to spend 35.00's which use to be 25.00's.

I don't order enough from Amazon to do that. On the cookbook I mentioned, my shipping would have been $3.99 plus tax, so the total cost would have been the same as Q's cost of the book alone.

Amazon has a lot of advantages - I get it half price because I'm a student, and it includes thousands of TV shows and movies that I can watch on-line.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a cookbook on Amazon for $14.99, then saw it in Ollie's for $4.99. I thought about it, and decided that since there are free returns with Prime I'd print a return label, then on my way to the PO pick up the same book at Ollie's. ($10 is $10!) Amazon asked why I was returning it, and when I said I had found it cheaper, they told me that since I'm such a good customer to just keep the book and they'd refund 100% of my money anyway - so I got the book for free! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I have had Amazon Prime for a couple of years and am glad. We use Amazon often for items that are hard to find. We live in a very small community in southern Ohio. I cook a lot and like to try many different recipes which may call for items that while others have access to in larger stores, in our grocery store we just do not have.

For instance, I wanted to try an Asian recipe that called for mushroom soy sauce. I also bought extra dark soy sauce and some other items that looked interesting. I also was able to find Sherry vinegar (not sherry cooking wine) which is impossible to find around here.

I have stopped buying cookbooks from Q because of the outrageous prices and even with "featured prices" the taxes and shipping/handling will send that featured price up quite a bit. With Amazon Prime, I have been able to buy the last 4 cookbooks that I have seen on Q for so much less, no shipping/handling at all! And they are never "sold out". Now, if Q says "advanced order" meaning not sold out but that a book is not out until a certain date, I can go to Amazon and pre order and the day AFTER it is available, it is on my front porch.

I also can watch many movies and tv series for free with Amazon Prime. I have a roku that I can watch them on my tv or I can watch on my ipad, phone or computer if I am not at home.

It may not be for everyone to spend money on it per year but for us we really take advantage of it!

My favorite source for cookbooks is garage sales. I love to find old community cookbooks and always look for the ones with the tattered covers or taped together. I know they were used and loved. My car has a steering problem and will not let me pass used book stores so that is also a good source.

We have a Store here called Half Price Books that I do go too. They have new and used Books and send out coupons. I recently bought ATK Lost Recipes Cookbook for a really low price. Yesterday I purchased the ATK all 6 Seasons Cooks Country Cookbook. I enjoy watching Americas Test Kitchen and Cooks Country.
