Re: Contemplating a French door refrigerator

I have the Samsung 28cubic ft. one with bottom freezer, and snack drawer , and the French doors I absolutely love love this Samsung product. The water and ice on the door is wonderful to have and it gets used here every day. this one is so big there is plenty of room for every thing you would want to put in it. The only thing if you decide on the French door type make sure you have plenty of room for both the doors to open wide. Our sits out from my kitchen counters since it is so huge but we also have all the open area for the French doors to open wide. We have the black it is so easy to take care of and we got the black because the front of my new dishwasher is black and my range is black and white. I can't say enough good things about this item it runs so quiet you never hear any of the motors running. You will love the pull out freezer drawer there is a top drawer in the freezer and then the whole bottom is all open freezer space. Good luck on what ever you decide we shopped all around and after our last double door GE gave out we decided to purchase this one from Sears and they were wonderful to deal with. We got the best price and service from Sears. Ours is 1 year old.

Cater, this sounds exactly like the one we bought, only in white. Delivery is Saturday and I'm looking forward to getting it.

Re: Contemplating a French door refrigerator

We had french door frig/freezers for years and I loved them. When we moved to another state last year and had to rent before purchasing, we ended up with a Samsung. Grrrrrrrr! I cannot stand this frig/freezer combo for several reasons: it's very easy to not quite close the left door of the frig, so an alarm goes off; the two drawers in the frig open from the bottom and the grasping surface is not adequate; there is a teeny-weeny space beneath a cold-cut drawer that's only good for really tiny things; the ice maker in the freezer is a joke (it takes forever for the thing to get going and when it finally chugs out some ice, you get about 8 cubes and it makes a racket when dumping them, so we have to turn it off when DGD is over.) Also, in this model the frig is above the freezer. With a bad back, I don't like having to bend over to dig for food.

Anyway, my bottom line is that I wouldn't purchase any model of Samsung frig/freezer. Flat screen TV? Yes!

Re: Contemplating a French door refrigerator

We have an extra refrigerator in our garage and it's a French door model. It's kind of nice - certainly better than a side-by-side. But I think the part I like the least is that the freezer part is just like having a little chest freezer. It doesn't seem as roomy as the old type with the freezer on top.

In my kitchen I have the old type with the freezer on top and I think I still like that. But I do like what some have mentioned about having doors that are less wide that the French door ones have. I never really thought about it but that would be a nice advantage.

I don't know what brand the one out in the garage is, as my husband bought it for cheap from his boss who replaces everything from cars to houses and everything in between, every couple of years. It's stainless steel and that seems nice enough I suppose. I like black better, though. Smiley Happy

Re: Contemplating a French door refrigerator

Husband meticulously measured space under top/small cabinets over the old refrigerator. All of the new refrigerators were too tall to fit underneath the cabinets. Bought a very expensive Whirlpool which - according to the measurements on the spec sheet should have fit. Too tall - they had to rip out the cabinet to put it in place. We do not have the fourth drawer, we do have the water/ice in the door. Husband HATES the refrigerator; I like the refrigerator. Replacing the cabinet is an expense we weren't planning on and for now it's a really ugly unpainted area over the refrig Smiley Sad

I have a 3 door and I love it. My friend has a 4 door and I really wish I had that extra one. Since I have a U counter it's wonderful to be able to open the doors and someone can still walk by.

Re: Contemplating a French door refrigerator

We love our Samsung 4 door SS refrigerator! The freezer on the bottom has 2 doors and holds an unbelievable, easy access amount of food. It is huge! Prior one was a Kenmore French door with pull out freezer. Freezer was awkward, but the top had a drawer that was wonderful!
