It's a world of wood in my kitchen -- walls, cabinets, soffits, built-in hutch, floors, crown molding, window/door trim, floors. Black and stainless appliances, granite countertops in tones of black/brown/grey/tan wtih some mica ships, travertine backsplash in mottled cream/ivory tones, white ceiling, white plantation shutters. So, for color I focus on the decorative accents and use a lot of red, black, green, white.

no recent pics ...believe it or not (even I don't know why😳) I decided to clean-out my kitchen cabinets this week, all excess is sitting on counters, table, etc...guess I'm in my don't need it or use it mode -- donate.

Im actually a little shocked at how many pieces (or sets) I have of Temptations I haven't used...Tara is skipping all the way to the bank while I'm wrapping & donating to Goodwill😉

When i I get things back in order I'll post some pics. Still searching for the perfect kitchen table...

@violann  Unless things are done differently where you are, I think you are mistaken on how laminate countertops are made.  They come to your house mounted on plywood or particle board.  There are no "tops" on lower cabinets.  They are wide open on the top, and the countertop (whatever kind you choose; stone, synthetic like corian, or formica-- which comes glued onto wood) are mounted on top of the lower cabinets.  There are no "cabinet tops" to replace on your lower cabinets.

Actually, @faeriemoon you understood my post precisely. My WONDERFUL husband has a tendency to base his observations about remodeling on the work of my DFIL, a kitchen planner/designer who passed away in 1965.

Our cabinets are beautiful and in great shape, but the tops are much too light and delicate. Unfortunately, they are sort of countersunk so that a band of wood goes around the tops.

The conversation between DH and me was whether the Formica could be redone sparing the wood trim. As I understand what you are saying, we would have to have a new band of wood trim around the edge of the Formica, which was actually what he was saying. I really appreciate your taking the time to post. Your explanation was (hope he won't read this) much simpler than that of DH. Must have been a "guy thing" LOL.
