I was reading about Cold Oven Pound Cakes. Cook's Country baked a Cold Oven Pound cake recipe in a preheated oven to see what would happen. The cake was dense and crustless. The one baked in a cold oven produced a higher rise and thick crust.

My aunt always made a Cold Oven Pound Cake. I tasted it and never liked it. So of course I will never make a Cold Oven Pound Cake.

Just wondered if any of you make Cold Oven Pound Cakes?

Or if you make other cakes, this way in a cold oven??

The oven is not preheated like most recipes call for you to do.

Put the cake in the oven and set the temp and cut the oven on.

Preheat means to cut the oven on to a certain temp. for about 10 minutes or until the oven is heated to a certain temp.

I have a cold oven pound cake recipe and it's the best ever!!! That's the only kind I'll make.

I do cold oven baking all the time. I didn't know there was a name for it.

I do it to conserve energy. I only pre-heat the broiler.

Cold oven cooking doesn't take any longer. My oven heats quickly. I turn on the oven, place whatever inside, and set the timer. I usually use the oven for anything that takes a while to cook, anyway, like deep dish pizzas or casseroles. Five minutes one way or the other isn't going to make a big difference.

Never heard of this, and it never crossed my mind to bake cakes that way, let alone anything else.

The few times I thought I was saving time by throwing things in a non-preheated oven, things never came out right.
