I actually did a few weeks ago when my husband wasn't home.  Tossed 80% of it!

Makes a difference when the husband isn't around to keep a watchful eye.  I use to do that too.

We've been moving everything from our living room, dining room, kitchen, and family room to the garage, preparing for new floors and paint.  Ripping up carpet and pad, we were totally but pleasantly surprised that the garbage men took it.  We almost rented a small dumpster that would have cost a small fortune.  We brought two carloads of stuff to the resale shop and are setting aside more to bring next week.  Painters will be here Tuesday and Wednesday.  Cleaning and reorganizing the kitchen drawers and cabinets is on my list for Friday.

I cleaned the crumbs out of my silverware drawer and washed out cutlery tray a few days ago.

Does that count?

It is a project isnt it?!  We did that 8 years ago had our entire interior repainted and had main floor hardwoods put in replacing carpets. What a huge difference hope you like yours!

@Desertdi

I can now understand why the closet is " full. " Height seems to be the driver.

Some ideas to work with: can the underwear be relocated to the bathroom if there is a closet or under counter space available ?  That would free up space in its former drawer.

( I got a large, heavy duty, 3-drawer plastic container on wheels that got converted into our pill center...it keeps the 90-day supply for each of us as well as the AM and PM pill cases that are prepared and stored. Availble, organized, out of sight. )

Can the bottom half of the outerwear closet be converted to shelving for folded denim ?

Can a hanging rod be added below the existing one in any closet to accommodate " folded " over clothes on a nonslip type hanger ?  " Two-tiered hanging...have used this type hanging system I found at Walmart.  Looks like two would fit side by side in the closet picture you posted without having to install a solid rod.

Since you cannot alter the structure of your home in the fire zone, can you create space within to expand an existing closet ? Or, to carve out hiphigh shelving with or without roll out shelves ?  Given the height issue and the use of furniture with drawers, the hiphigh shelving would not incur moving furniture or dusting pieces and could be painted and thus disappear into the wall / serve as additional display space.  With a cutout for a chair or ottoman ( additional storage ) could serve as a makeup desk.

I hope some of these thoughts could be adapted so things would be easier for you !

Are you aware that this thread was started by @Kachina624 as a comic JOKE...ya know...meant to be FUNNY.

That's not her driveway, nor is that a photo of my closet.

Re: Cleaned Out Your Kitchen Junk Drawer Lately?

Everytime I clean out a drawer or closet I'll discard something I rarely use.

That rarely used item is then wanted.  When I go to buy another it's so cheaply made and much more expensive.

Can't win for losing.

It sure is, @rockygems123!  The inconvenience will be minimal though because of how we've mapped out our plan of attack.  We have breaks built in.  I don't know how some people can do it, living in the chaos for weeks or months.  Cooking alone would be a major challenge.

Didn't see her start or photo, so no I didn't know this was a joke.  I wouldn't have spent so much time or energy in responding.

thank you for the info...may be it may help another person.
