Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

I know of it, maybe had it once.  It seems to always be on sale at the grocery store.

Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

There was something someone showed me about what Baby Boomers eat that people don't eat now.  I remember soda, meatloaf, Velveeta (this bb never at that to begin with), jello, and I don't remember what else.

I love the stuff, but we don't keep chips or things like that around unless we have a cookout or something.

If I need or want Chex Mix I'll buy a bag of it at the grocery store.  It's too much trouble and expense to make it from scratch for as often as I'd need it.

Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

When I was working, I made it each Christmas for my 15 co-workers. Yes it was a lot of work but everyone loved it.

@OKPrincess  The best one I ever had was home made!  The stuff in the sack doesn't compare!  TOO salty!

Time consuming to make but tasty and makes great gifts.

I never tasted it.  My family never made it and it has never looked appetizing to me.  I'd rather just eat plain nuts without the cereal and other stuff.

Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

The last time I made this, I was having a mixed party with both adults and children.  I made it thinking the kids would like it.  They didn't touch it, but the adults kept going back for more!

we still love it. chex mix is a classic. i can sometimes find the "starter kit" in sams club

i can say that my hidden valley ranch oyster crackers go over a lot bigger than chex mix. it also makes a good food gift when you put it into a cute tin or other packaging.

Re: Chex Mix -- No Longer Fashionable?

My family and I still enjoy the original Chex Mix at gatherings from time to time, but I think people under 25 just don't "get it" nowadays. And honestly, if you've never tasted it before, it isn't the most attractive pile in a bowl to pull you in. Smiley Wink

However, the sweet variations of the mix always seem to be a hit! I make some version of Muddy Buddies every year for my "Elf Friday" holiday kickoff party (held the day after Thanksgiving and featuring a viewing of the movie Elf, starring "Buddy") and rarely have leftovers.
