Check those Grocery Receipts

According to reports on the local NextDoor App, one of our largest local grocers, Albertsons, has had on-going computer problems with their produce.

Various people report being charged the following prices at the cash register:

1. Bananas $25./ea

2. Bag of Oranges $74.95

3. Baking Potatoes      4/$160.

4. Cucumber $40.

One person said her cashier didn't notice and was very nonchalant when the error was mentioned.  Maybe they're routine?

Pays to be alert.

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

My biggest offender is Walmart. My $9.97 bag of pistachios is now actually $11.97. It's been a while since they've done that after they got tagged for it locally, but it seems they are back at it again.

Luckily, I have found my old supermarket chain has a store about twenty minutes away that I will gladly drive to now after the one near me closed.

I heard all the ruckus about digital pricing in stores. I wish they would hurry up and get to it if they can't replace the store shelf stickers faster than this. It makes a difference to me and my budget!

Not only the receipts .. but expiration dates .. picked

up some Parm cheese Monday ... 8/4 .. expiration  date

6/25 ... I know my fault ... I have been lax about that ..

Now I am writing a note to self on the top of every

grocery list ....

O.K.   rant over !!!!

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

I  learned a long time ago that the shelf price on an item is not the register price. Many times the priceis higher than the ahelf price. I only noticed this in Walmart. I,m sure their are other stores guilty of it.

That's crazy! Albertsons owns Acme, a supermarket chain in my area. We don't have Safeway around here, but I think they are a part of Albertsons too. We should always be checking our receipts.

I always scan my own items so I am able to check every price in real time.

At my Market Street if the price on the shelf is lower than the computer price, they apply the lower one. I watch carefully, one day I was charged for 12 heads of lettuce, instead of 1.

An incorrect produce code was used for my red onion, and I was charged almost $40.00. !!!

Be vigilant. It is necessary.

Edited to add, I check dates always.

Wow, can't believe (but really I can...) these mistakes I'm reading...wow! Tks for the reminder.

Though....I had a mom who must have DRILLED that in me "Check your receipt!" and "Did you check the date?!"

I'm not as good as she was...she walked slowly out the door on her way out, checking the receipt, so she could go right back if there was a mistake. I check it thoroughly, but when I get home. I feel bad when I recall, I'd be impatient with her sometimes, when I was taking her shopping...between reading the slip, searching through her "coupon envelope" "Wait! I have a coupon for that...somewhere here...Wait, wait!! ....then it would be expired, and she'd say, "Oh they never look at the date!" (Yes....they do.) Dang...now I wish I could deal with all that stuff again. Anyhow...I digress..(as usual)

I have not caught any mistakes or computer glitches yet, at my local markets. They have, in the past, sometimes forgotten to deduct my bottle return slips. Not that that adds up to much but not only does every dollar count, but if I'm going to go through the business of saving bottles, then filling those dang machines that are always on the blink....I want it deducted!

Thanks for the reminder to be diligent on all this.

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

I find the worst offense is expired items on the shelves. I always check the dates before putting items in my cart. There are also times when I will reject an item that is too close to an expiration date. For example, I can't eat a whole loaf of bread in two days (no I will not freeze it) or use an entire condiment jar in one month!

I use self check-out the majority of the time at Walmart and Publix. If the items ring at the wrong price, I either reject them entirely, or in the case of Publix, I get it free.

Re: Check those Grocery Receipts

I usually scan it quickly, I try to watch while they ring.  One day I got home, boy I didn't get much for $120.  My cherries were rung as 22.99 ln instead of 2.99/lb.   I got the refund the next day.  I had 1.5 lbs of cherries, which rang near $33.00
