Has anyone had French butter? I've read a few reviews and it tastes like nothing we've ever had. I've ordered some, shipping was insane BUT I'll report back after I've tried on my homemade bread Smiley Happy

@Mustang Shar

If you

re talking about President's Butter it is fantastic.  It used to be in my local grocery but no longer.  Where did you order from?

I went to Kerry when I couldn't find it.  Good butter but still prefer Presidents.

Re: Butter from France

[ Edited ]

Presidents is the Land O Lakes but has a higher fat content. In other words, it's a little more expensive, but nothing special in France. You can find even more expensive specialty butters there, probably from small dairies just like you could in your area. Kerry Gold is also higher fat and should be a good substitute.  I did not know this until I stumbled on the info searching for something else online, I eat Presidents all the time in France and to me it just tastes like butter.  I've served it to my family many times not a single person has ever mentioned the taste of the butter, and I've never noticed either. I think the hype and the cost make people think it's really much more special than it is.

I couldn't help but laugh because it would be like somebody from France coming to the US and loving Land o Lakes and paying an arm and a leg to have it shipped there.   You may want to try the Amish butter, you can find it at Trader Joe's and most big groceries. Just Google "Amish butter near me" and it will give you many stores.

No, but would like to! Except for the fact that I'm not sure I can afford any more expensive tastes.

I know that anything (especially from France) seems to come with a very high price tag.

We don't have French butter here. But I do like Kerry butter from Ireland. I can't really afford it but sometimes buy it when it goes on sale. I always use unsalted butter.

I used to use Kerry Gold butter all the time.  Now I don't use butter as much as I used to and I often cook with Ghee.  I really should get some Kerry butter again though...it's been a while.

Another Kerry Gold butter fan here.  I've had french butter and never really noticed a big difference.  I also think Land O Lakes is pretty good.  I am having to avoid my beloved butter though, last physical my cholesterol was up Smiley Sad.

@CalminHeart If you belong to Costco they have it in a multi pack for a good price.  I just freeze the bars that I'm not using.

@Bhvbum

I have not have the pleasure to live in France but now understand Presidents is to France as Land of Lakes is to US, and Kerry is to Ireland. I did enjoy the President's over Land Of Lakes.

So many butters made in France, did you try many of the speciality butters?  Did you have Rodolphe Le Meunier which is considered the best butter in the world by most?

I love my butter and like to try different ones when available. Amish is pretty good.  Enjoyed your post and chart.

Thanks for the guide, interesting.

I love butter, never had one I didn't like.  Might have to give the others a try.

By the way, the Land O Lakes Lite Butter makes excellent grilled cheese.   It spreads easily so you get even coverage.  I'm too lazy to let the stick soften.
