Re: Bread Makers

[ Edited ]

I got a Breadman TR2500-BC model a little over a year ago, after price-matching an Amazon price at Best Buy.  I use it every 1-2 weeks, and have really enjoyed it.  My family loves the bread I make.  I usually only make white, but it's really good white bread, taken from the recipe in the book that comes along with the machine.  Sometimes, I use it for pizza dough or rolls.  It has other capabilities, but I keep it simple with what I make in it.  I think it was around $85.  Certainly, not a Zojirushi.  But I've been quite pleased with it..  I had thrift store bread machines for a long time, but then felt it was time for a new one, especially since I use it so frequently (plus, the others kicked the bucket).  When the time comes for me to replace my bread machine, I might consider a Zojirushi, as I've heard great things about them, here and elsewhere.  Bread machines are SO awesome.  They're so under-rated, in my humble opinion.

I store mine in the closet out of the way. Bought a Cuisinart from Bed and Bath with 20% off coupon. Used it once to make sure it worked, then, will drag out in winter. Bean soup and bread, rules. LOL

Bean soup? Say when and I'll be there, haha. Yum!

I have the below one I bought at WalMart (it is also on Amazon for the same price, but at both places the price fluxuates).  It is a great machine and works very well for all the breads/doughs, even gluten free.  I've had it for two years now and use it frequently.  There is a little hook to remove the paddles before the baking starts.

I have the mini zo. It was a bit pricey, but I love it. It is just my DH and me so a smaller loaf is just what we need. I use it to just make dough and bake in the oven, I make my pizza dough in it, many different kinds of bread and dough for cinnamon rolls, among other things. I highly recommend Zo bread machines.

After having a bread machine for years starting with one from QVC that made a round loaf and then a Breadman which I had stopped using and stored away, I decided a year ago to start making bread again.  My old one didn't seem to work well and was so heavy to store away and get out for use, that I also bought a mini Zo.  Got it from BB and B, on sale and with their discount.  I  make several (1 lb.) loaves  a week.  (for me and to give away)  This mini even has a handle so makes it easy to move and the footprint is very small.    Very happy with this purchase and I recommend it.  Also recently bought a revised edition of Donna Rathmell German's Bread Machine Cookbook and all I have tried come out well.   (I had an older version.)

Remember when QVC had bread machines on all the time?  Many for TSVs too.

I have a mini Z and thinking of purchasing a large one. Can you all tell me your favorite and fool proof best recipe ?  Also, can I use box mix breads in the Z.\

Thanks

We bought a Hitichi in 1992, used it for many years.  We then bought a breadman and used it, it was good, but when the 2-paddle Zo's came out we upgraded to that.  Later on we bought a Zo mini, and it is THE BEST one we have ever had.  It is almost foolproof.  We have had almost no failures with it.

The big zo with 2 paddles is an old one, and is somewhat picky about things, so I always take a peek in to see how the loaf is being needed so I can add a few drops of water or flour.  I think the newer models require less "supervision!"  LOL!!!

We make bread, pizza dough, roll dough, cookie dough, and even have baked little cakes in ours.  I highly recomment Zojirushi!

After maybe 10 years of use my Breadman one that I had purchased at an Amvets died.  I bought a Cuisinart convection (CB200 on book) one from Evine's. It has a gluten free and low carb cycle if one wants it. It has an alarm that sounds to remove the paddle and reshape the loaf if you program it. I like that so you do not have a hole. I do not use it a lot but love having the fragrance waft through the house , especially in cooler weather. I had an over the fence neighbor ask " are you baking bread ? it smells great."

I sometimes use the dough cycle for pizza and my favorite roll recipe so I do not have to mix it myself. I keep mine in a cabinet as I have limited counter space and a large appetite for countertop appliances & gadgets. I would not want to be without one though.

I have seen many discussions of bread makers and Zojirushi seems to be the king, but pricey for my needs.
