Long story short, I am on a first name basis with the repairman and the service dept where we bought the appliances from. I'm glad we took out extended warranties. The only appliance that has given me minimal trouble is the range and when we renovate the kitchen in our weekend place, we will buy another one because it is so well insulated. I don't know about the Bosch small appliances, other than they have a high price tag: to be on the safe side, I would get an extended warranty. I used to think extended warranties were a waste of money, but thanks to Bosch, I don't anymore. Poodlepet
That's a bummer. Maybe some companies shouldn't try and do everything? I'm not a brand loyal kind of person for that reason.
Consumer reports has steered me wrong on several occasions. I've always figured they were bought and paid for.

Appliances are not made to last more than 5 years now, so that they can replace them more frequently for profit. That is all that it is. My Amana washer/dryer are 14 years old and still running, while my sister has been through her Samsung washer and dishwasher. The washer was serviced 3 times and has had 2 motors and a wash tub. It was one of those fancy front loaders. That service work was done on her second replacement from Lowe's. The first leaked like a sieve. Lowe's ended up giving her cash credit for it to buy another one. She got a GE traditional washing machine. Her Samsung dishwasher had two motors and was replaced with a credit as well. She got a Bosh. The Bosh is great and quite. Mine is 16 years old and missing the knob but works.

I know, I guess word of mouth. I know reviews are so off the wall I wonder if I bought the same product sometime.

Ugh, our 17 year old washing machine died this week, we dread finding another we like. It was a Kenmore, the dryer is a Whirlpool so we'll see what we come up with.

My ancient Magic Chef gas stove died several years ago, as well as my old Maytag dryer. I went shopping for new appliances and couldn't believe the cheap quality and high prices. Came home, Googled it and fixed them myself. These older appliances are designed to be repaired. Spare parts are available.
