Bennington Pottery arrived!!!!

The order that I place for my Bennington Pottery arrived today. I literally had tears in my eyes when I unpacked it. First of all, there are no styofoam peanuts, no bubble wrap, only "green" heavy "corrugated" paper lovingly wrapping each piece.

To hold a piece of Americana in one's hands, to know that this is not mass produced, but made by an American company that has been in business for 62 years, is wonderful. To turn over the pottery and see the potter's stamp, done by hand, to know that each piece has been lovingly made with integrity, gives me such a good feeling. I called the company immediately on their toll free number and told them how much I appreciate the craftsmanship and the quality of this American made product. (which is certified lead free)

For the brownie pan, I chose the emerald green and black glaze and it truly looks like a piece of granite. I just made meatless lasagna in it, and it is COMPLETELY nonstick. (it is a high glaze, not matte)

The soup and sandwich plates that I chose are more rustic looking, with a matte cinnamon glaze and look as though they might have been purchased at an art festival.

Yes, it costs considerably more than Temp-tations, but the quality and the history behind it is worth it to me.

Yes, I have no "proof" that temp-tations, with it's "acceptable" FDA levels of lead can harm me. But that is not a chance that I am willing to take.

I will be saving my money and gradually acquiring a few of the pieces that I feel that I will get the most use from, like a pie pan and a muffin pan, some trigger mugs and a mixing bowl.

Anyone who doubts the quality of this product only has to purchase one piece to be convinced.

Had it not been for my niece, the chemist, I would not have known of the existance of Bennington pottery. I would rather have four quality pieces of Bennington pottery than an entire kitchen full of lower quality pieces. Lesson learned.
