Balboa Celebration Cake

I was wondering if anyone knew if you could thaw the balboa celebration cake out by sitting it on the counter. It says to remove from freezer and refrigerate 5 hours before eating, but I really don't want to serve it cold. Do you think I could just thaw it at room temperature?
