NYC residents enjoy Catskill water from our taps.  We may not always have the best air (like today - thank you NJ wild fires!) but we have always had good water.

I have ordered bagels from the Q and enjoyed them.  However, I have several great bagel stores in my area and their bagels are delicious.  I have always loved bagels since the fifties and have always put all different fillings in them. I also love bialys. Since I have been and am a bagel fan I am happy with the taste and selection I have to choose from in stores.  .

I get my bagels from Panera---they have  bagel Tuesdays where you can get a bakers dozen--13--for around $12. Have never had a NY one---but these are pretty good.

@spiderw   My MOUTH IS WATERING JUST READING YOUR POST! LOL

I lost 100 lbs 18 yrs ago and have kept it off!  I would say the two items I haven't touched during that long period of time that still bring me to the point of SALIVATION ARE:

BAGELS

SOFT PRETZELS

Another poster mentioned getting a "bakers dozen" bagels at Panera....HMMM...that bag would have been emptied by me driving home from the store...Once I "started" there was no STOP!  That's why I don't go near any bread products.  FULL STOP!

I extend my most hearty CONGRATULATIONS to all those who can enjoy a bagel to the max without "overdoing" it like I did.

Panera bagels are decent. They are not "regular" bagels you get in a bagel store or deli in ny. A ny bagel is a whole different food. @wagirl

Panera steams rather than boils its "bagels" before baking.  A true New York bagel first gets a boiling bath.

Panera's is okay as a bread, but I don't consider it to be a true bagel.

@wagirl  Not all bagels in ny are created equal. I have a favorite bagel store I go to. I have many.many options where I live but in my opinion this store has the best because they are making the bagels 24/7. As you can probably tell bagels are a favorite food for me.

@Jo1313   You are lucky your in Mew York.  Can you order from Katz deli, or Russ and Daughters deli?   They both have decent bagels, but I'm from California , lol.  I do know what I like in a bagel though.
