Can anyone recommend a good Bagel slicer,  esp for the Pretzel Bagels ?  thx

Wish I paid attention to the one we had where I used to work. I worked for a restaurant management company. So they had in our small kitchenette " very good products". And they had an excellent bagel slicer. But have no clue what company made it.

But I have been disappointed with the bagel slicers that I encounter in Hotel's "breakfast rooms". I would end up with the bagel crushed under the blade.  If I have to slice a bagel I just do it myself with a knife.

We use the Hoan Bagel Biter with good results.  Have had it for a while, so I forgot where it was purchased.

@89135 - There are several different styles of bagel slicers on the market, including "guillotine" slicers, a version where you place your bagel inside a container or holder and use your own knife to slice it through the sides, and a special knife that you sort of feed the bagel into to slice it. If any of those options might be what you're looking for, I don't have recommendations.

However, we use a customizable slicer from Amazon for all kinds of specialty bread slicing, and it works quite well for bagels, especially because it allows you to move the bagel around a bit to select exactly where you want to slice it. It's called the CAWIU Bread Slicer and looks like the photo below; I wish I could post a link, but hopefully the product name is unique enough for you to find it. Good luck!

ETA: If you like this style but don't want a plastic version, you can easily search on Amazon or elsewhere online and find wood or metal options in the same style.

@deepwaterdotter  I have read where Hoan is the best but I wasn't sure if it would be good for the pretzel bagels..Was thinking they may be more uneven..

A good tip ( might be a known thing by others) but if you get your shipment of multiple bags of bagels from Just Bagels, take a moment to slice them and put back in the bags before putting in the freezer.

You are then not having to remeber to thaw before slicing or slicing while sleepy in the morning lol

@89135 - I bought a Hoan Bagel slicer off Amazon a few years ago.  At first I thought it worked great.  But then, if I tried to use it as soon as the bagels arrived, they were too soft and it just squished them, instead of slicing them.  That was after only owning it for about a month.

I've ended up going back to doing it by hand with a knife.  My DH suggested putting them in the freezer for a little while and then slicing them, before completely freezing them.  I have an order coming in this week, so I may try that.

Years ago I had a form that would hold the bagel and there was a place to slice.  As the knife would get to the bottom you have to turn the bagel to get a complete slice.  I eventually tossed it.  You can essentially do the same thing with your hand wrapped over the top of the bagel, holding it securely as you slice it.

I had a Pretzel Bagel this morning and used my serrated knife...It works just fine, so I'm not in the market for a slicer anymore.  It's gonna be me...;-) Thanks everyone
