Not a problem for me.  Seldom eat beef as it is. But when I do it is local.

Re: Bad News for Beef

[ Edited ]

Glad we already bought a tenderloin to cut steaks from when it was on sale. Bought Prime Rib on sale to cut ribeye steaks. Have a couple chuck roasts. Have 20 lbs of grass fed beef in 1 lb pkgs from the farm.

Have been in the process of stocking the freezer back up. The farm has vendors with meat for sale from local farms in April so we will be going to that to stock up.

It's nice outside so DH will make us a filet mignon for our anniversary tomorrow.

A couple things you can do to combat high meat prices in general. Go in with a neighbor or family member who you trust, and get half a beef, or three others and get a quarter beef and stock your freezer now. If you are able, you could get chickens for the eggs, or two feeder pigs, raise them on slop til butcher weight. Butcher one and sell the second one to pay for the processing of yours. Maybe work out a deal with a neighbor or family, that you buy the animal and they feed and water it until butchering time, then split the meat 50/50. I live in a rural area and realize that not everyone can keep or raise animals.

We only eat ground beef for burgers, casseroles, and meatballs.  We prefer pork for roasts, steaks, stews, etc...

I won't give up beef.  I can make adjustments like using ground beef more often and trimming elsewhere in my grocery purchases, if needed.

@JeanLouiseFinch  I won't either. I stopped eating poultry at the end of December and added better cuts of meat on sale in addition to my usual ground beef days. It is pretty wonderful!
