Do you save it and cook with it?  If so, how do you store it?  I just read where it is not as bad for you as you think...huh, what isn't bad for you to some degree...

The only time I use bacon grease is when making bacon and eggs. Cook the bacon, remove most grease then using same pan leave just enough so eggs don't stick.

I save some in a smaller Lock 'n' Lock container in the freezer.

No, I don't save it or use it, and my mom (50's and 60's cook) never did either.

Re: Bacon Grease

Bacon grease is gold in our house.  I make bacon weekly.  I bake it on parchment lined sheet pans.  I pour the grease into a glass jar and let it cool on the counter until I can handle it.  Then it goes in the fridge. If there's any left when I'm making a new batch of bacon, the jar comes out of the fridge to come to room temperature and I'll add the new grease to the jar.

Heck yes, I have a lock n lock full of it in my fridge.

I use it whenever I make naked beans, you know when you jazz up a can of pork n beans, you add chopped onion, some brown sugar, garlic, catsup. a squueze of mustard, and a glob of bacon grease on the top. Yum

OI add it to green beans with some rinsed off canned potatoes, some chopped onion, a sprinkling of sugar, salt and pepper and a garlic clove, and a glob of bacon grease.

I chop up cabbage and fry the cabbage in some bacon grease!!!!

Add a drizzle to my dogs dry dog food, Makes them scarf it up, because they get tired of the same ole stuff. They love it.

I save all the bacon grease grease and use it constantly, haven't had a heart attack yet.

We save it and use it to cook with. I store it in Lock & Lock containers...none of it goes to waste.

@gulf coast girl   I love your uses for bacon grease. I am going to try them.

I hadn't been saving bacon grease  UNTIL recently a recipe that I was making said to use bacon grease. What a tasty difference it made in the recipe. So I now save a small glass container of the bacon grease.

Being raised by southern parents, I guess I'm the only person "up north" who keeps bacon grease in a tin can on top corner of stove top.  I don't know anyone who keeps it in the fridge. Smiley Surprised

Great minds think alike.  👍🏾
