Back burner pot with strainer

I love this pot. I don't know how long I've had it, but the black bottom that must have been glued on came off. This is the old one. New one has two yr warantee; I'll check with CS but those warentees are rarely worth it. Did this happen to anyone else and also can I use pot without extra piece that I assume holds heat in, etc.
