Once properly seasoned this does not happen. Just keep cooking in it - don't scrub it - just wash lightly with water and soap only if absolutely needed and it will happen naturally.

kohl's has some food network "cookinggreen" light weight cast iron pans. they also have enamel/cast iron pans, that are light.

All my cast iron is old, either Griswold or Wagner brand. They are plentiful at yard sales & nicely seasoned. I wipe clean, then quickly wash. I dry them on the stove burner, then wipe with Crisco lightly. I store them in my oven. The newer brands of cast iron just don't cook like the older ones.

I recommend a black non-enameled one, like lodge or krazy kooker. I have three skillets of various sizes and occasionally use a little soap if necessary for cleaning, then I dry by heating over the store. Afterwards I grease them with coconut oil and store them upside down in my oven. I rarely use my other cookware now, that's how useful I find them. I wish I had started cooking with this cookware earlier.
You are right about lightweight. America's Test Kitchen tested them and found no lightweight brand was able to perform to the level of traditional cast iron. Their "winner" is Lodge.

How lucky you are to find Griswold cast iron! Hang on to those pieces; they are very valuable.
