Anyone have a foodsaver bag melt in the microwave?

I wash and re-use my foodsaver bags ( not the ones I put meat in though) Anyhow- I had one melt up like crazy- didn't seem to catch fire (thank goodness) but it was all browned and melted.

I've never tried to microwave them. I only use glass, or silicone to microwave food.

In 15 years I've never put a vac seal bag in the microwave. I would imagine, however, that that type of plastic would melt.

Why do people put them in the microwave? Am I just confused? Smiley Happy

I've been nukking FS bags since I got my first FS in 1988. The bags ARE definitely microwaveable. You MUST vent the sealed bag when using in the microwave. Since I reuse all my bags, I clip a corner from the bag, but if you don't plan to reuse the bag (a VERY big waste), you can poke several holes in the center for venting.

I often place plated meals in the bags, seal and freeze for anotherer day. Recently found a number of rolls that were misplaced in a move 15 years ago, so have been using them. No difference between those and the newest ones.

I also use the bags to make 'boil-in-bag' entrees for several families that I still do PC work for.

I'll go with Daisy here, maybe you didn't vent it?

I don't reuse my bags, I always figure it takes more water to rinse than to buy new bags. I use them for boiling bags, never nuking.

You asked a question on here regarding a Henry Grieg Fox some time ago. Do you still have it? I'd be interested in purchasing it from you as a gift for our father. Please let me know either way.

I have never used them in a microwave. Don't plan to either. Not happy heating up food in plastic.

As for using the bags in the microwave-- they even say when they demonstrate that you can use them and I have many times- and I do vent them--- this was the first time I ever had them burn-- smelled terrible as well- perhaps I used it one too many times and it broke down. They are easy to rinse out -I mostly use them for warming/ thawing bread products. If I defrost meat - I throw them out. They're too expensive to just toss after one use. Why would you even bother getting a foodsaver if you're going to do that?

You buy the foodsaver to save money on food but throw out expensive bags after one use?
