Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

I could never accept that low-heat cooking = food poisoning. Weird, I know...but that's my 'thing'.

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

I liked crock pot cooking when i was working and DH still loves some of those old recipes. However, I did not cook with packaged food in mine - I use real broths and not canned soups or lipton onion soup. Every dish, no matter how it is cooked is only as good as the ingredients used to make it. I absolutely love to make my spaghetti sauce in the crock pot - also chili.

I rarely use the low temp option - on the high after about 2 hours it is boiling hot so I do not worry about bacteria at all.

I use my crock pot for soups, stews and chili with good results. I also make Indian food ahead and keep it warm in the crock pot. I'm not fond of chicken or roasts in it. The consistency and taste aren't the same. They taste stewed which isn't the result I want.

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

It's funny, last week I put a roast in before leaving for work. I must have been talking out loud when I was pressing the buttons. My husband was close by when I was saying...ok, low and before I could say for 8 hours, my husband asked if there was a "dry" button. He said the roast is always dry. I asked him if he was going to fix something else that night and he said no. We both came home from work that night and ate dry roast.

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

Crock pot cooking is a favorite of mine. It allows me to cook good meals while working.......I would hate not having a crock pot. Even when I am home on the weekends using my crock pot allows me to get out of the kitchen. I do enjoy cooking and some foods and recipes aren't for the crock pot but it is a good thing at times.

I love the crockpot for making soup.

In general, I thoroughly enjoy this type of cooking to have a great meal ready when it is dinnertime and we have been out all day.

I also let some foods cook overnight if I need something early in the day.

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

There's a certain taste to crock pot food, and pressure cooked food as well IMHO, kind of like stewed. If you like stewed food then you probably love these two types of cooking. I like ~some~ of it.... love taking individually frozen chicken (with bone) and stacking it in my crock pot with two packages of Italian Seasoning (the packages to make the dressing) and sprinkling it through out the stacks of chicken and then letting it rip for 8 - 10 hours. It's SO simple and very good. (Yes, it tastes stewed).

DH and kids love crock pot roast beef, with little carrots.... easy dish, but I don't care for it a lot.

I have a receipe for tortillas, cheeze, chicken, chilis that is pretty good.

And I've been having fun with my new Pressure Cooker....

Re: Anyone else not like cooking in a crockpot?

Never liked crock pots, I only own one as it was a gift.

I do not like to leave anything cooking if I not home. (But I do not leave the dry on either)

Once I got my pressure cooker I never used my crock pot again! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}
