Re: Anyone an Ina Garten fan?

I think Ina is one of the only hosts who has not changed in presenting her shows even though she has become "popular". Giada really hasn't changed much except she has thrown in more family like Ree Drummond. The difference is Ree had put her life and family in her show from the beginning where Giada started out only cooking by herself but slowly started doing family and friend outings etc. Well, thinking back, Ina cooked by herself and then started doing parties with friends but I think that is because she was teaching us how to set up parties and decorate etc. Still, she hasn't changed much in her demeanor by screaming, cackling or drastically changing her appearance like some FN "stars". In fact, Ina looks the same as she did 10 years ago!

And as far as the Make a Wish issue, I did get upset initially when it first came out. Being a mother myself, I thought it was horrible that she denied a sick child a wish. She isn't a mother and I thought she was being a little cold regarding this wish. I have since "gotten over it" as it pretty much has blown over and who really knows for sure what did take place. And to those who have said that if she grants one child's wish, everyone would want to have her with them also, I disagree. The Make a Wish foundation is for very sick kids, not any public person, so they screen and obviously know the children. I also think one child wanting to be with Ina is fairly uncommon, most would want Mickey Mouse, a favorite musician etc...I don't think EVERYONE would flock towards choosing Ina just because she granted one child their wish!! She couldn't be THAT popular of a celebrity with children!

I watch her shows and enjoy learning from her. I have cooked my whole life and enjoy it a lot. I pick up many, many ideas from her and love most everything I have tried. Her husband is so adorable too! You can tell they are still smitten with each other after many years together.

I like Ina's show, her husband and recipes. She seems down to earth and I like that she's not pumped up with Botox and rail thin.

I think when Giada started cooking on TV she was single, and that is why she has brought in her family (as they appeared, LOL!) gradually...

Giada was married, she just didn't have her daughter for many many years. She has said that the death of her brother was hard on her and her desire to have children was impacted by his death.

As I stated in my first post, my opinion of IG was altered after reading here about the Make-a-Wish thing. It was not my intention to resurrect anything, but just stating my opinion, that's all. Based on some additional comments, perhaps I need to reconsider.

She is calm on tv, but I know of off-tv circumstances that cause me to have little respect for her as far as her quality as a person. I won't get into specifics, but no younger family member of mine would be shuttled around and sent away if I had space in my home and plenty of money and control of my time. Don't care that much about the Make a Wish, but I'd feel honored if a child wanted to visit with me. She probably doesn't have to worry about scores of seriously ill children breaking down her door.

There's good and bad to everyone, including myself, but I can't excuse myself when I can fulfill a need, especially in my own circle. I do enjoy her cooking show sometimes.

Re: Anyone an Ina Garten fan?

I do like her. I love the fact that her baked good recipes always come out! She always has an interesting twist to traditional recipes, keeping them traditional with a little kick!

I was a fan of her boxed mixes for cakes, cookies, cupcakes and brownies. When she discontinued the line due to cost, I was devastated. They were the only mixes that tasted home made. They didn't have that after taste I can always taste in most boxed mixes. I especially liked the Old Fashioned Banana Cake, the Lemon Angel Foods cake, and coconut cupcakes. They were fabulous.

So, I made them from her cookbook recipes, and they are identical to the mixes. The banana cake recipe is perfect. I know now she had to use top grade ingredients in her mixes, hense the high cost. I make mine organic and I tell you her recipes are right on the money.

I also like her soft spoken, but assured voice. She has no gimmick to speak of, unless we count Jeffrey, LOL! Those two really are in love. They have been together forever. Since she was pretty young.

I not only like her presentation, her recipes are great too!

I would LOVE to have her life...she even worked in the Carter White House.

She is a smart businesswoman, a great cook and a lifestyle maven.
