I enjoy watching her cook, but the set-ups are always so contrived and scripted that it's a bit ridiculous. I'm not doubting that they love one another and enjoy their lives together, but that's also made me wonder how scripted the sweetness between Ina and Jeffrey might be. I was also disappointed when I read in this forum that she refused to grant a "Make a Wish" request to a sick child a few years ago. That has altered my opinion of her as a person.

I believe I heard that Ms. Garten did not refuse the child and that she didn't even know about the request.

Yes, and when she heard about it she tried to rearrange her schedule to accomodate the request, but the family had already chosen a different "wish" to fulfill.

When I did a little research, just now, it seems that the boy made the request twice and both times was denied. Once it reached the public and there seemed to be a bit of a kerfuffle because it seemed he was being turned down while Ina had plenty of time to host some of the hoity toity set from The Hamptons. In the end, Ina contacted the family, willing to meet with them and their son, but the parents decided against it because they didn't want to put anymore stress on their son, and opted for a different wish. It might not be as bad as it sounds, but for the two refusals. Yes, Ina may have tried to mend things, but all the circumstances surrounding the controversy were unfortunate.

This is what I heard, as well. She is really not as nice of a person as she would like viewers to think. I stopped watching her after I read about this.

I too stopped watching after I found out this was true. I also heard that she isn't as nice as people think she is.

Re: Anyone an Ina Garten fan?

I've always liked Ina and Jeffrey. I feel that they do have a very happy marriage but I'm sure just like any other couple they have the occasional disagreement. The show is staged to show the very best of their lives.

I'm sure not everyone would agree with me but the couple that I just felt were portrayed as so fake and staged were the Neelys. All that honey-pie and sugar talk was just too much to take. It never came across as genuine. I actually liked him but could never warm up to her.

On a side note, the Neely's were on The Talk yesterday and I couldn't believe how thin Gina has gotten. Too thin in my opinion. She always had such a cute figure but I think she has taken the weight loss to such an extreme. So many people do that. It seems like once they lose the weight they want to lose they just don't know when to stop.

Re: Anyone an Ina Garten fan?

We do not know that Ina personally turned this little boy down. It could have been her staff.

She probably does receive so many requests that it is virtually impossible for her to accede to them all. It is hard to say.

She did offer to make it good to this little boy when she found out about it. That has been publicly acknowledged. His family turned it down, which was their prerogative.

Everyone is free to think what they wish.

I happen to think Ina is a very nice lady who would not consciously hurt a little boy who is ill.

Re: Anyone an Ina Garten fan?

Her cooking is pretty basic, and nothing new, and I don't agree with many of her meal combinations. For instance, she served a salty lox with a tomato salad in a mustard dressing, salty and prosciutto, also salty, so no balance in this meal.

Re: Anyone an Ina Garten fan?

Her staff handles all her mail and requests for appearances. Ina did not even know about the little boys request until it all blew up on the web.

The staff saw that she was on a planned book tour on the dates requested so they had to say no.

Why are people so quick to condemn when they have no idea what is the truth of the situation?

I love Ina and her recipes are wonderful. My FIL is still talking about her leek bread pudding that I made at Christmas Smiley Happy

Yeah, it was proven long ago that Ina G got a bad rap on this one.

Because the press pounced on this story on a slow news day, and the people who are envious of her lifestyle jumped on the opportunity to dump on her.

And the press likes to slant these kinds of things in the worst possible way too, because they can and it sells better.

I like watching the Pioneer Woman, but her recipes are boring and not very tasty, IMO.

She made a chicken pasta dish recently that was like Chicken Riggies minus the flavor!

Terrier, what are "chicken Riggies"?I am from California and have never heard of this...
Is it regional? Sounds good (and Italian!)
