a spreadable butter that is not saturated fat/trans fat to be used on pancakes, waffles, baked potatoes.  My Land O Lakes has got to go since my recent blood test showed my cholesterol is a tad to high. Dr. told me to lay off the butter. Not put on pill yet, but, told to make changes.

I"ll still use butter in recipes, since I only bake on weekends and give most of that away, but, I need suggestions on routine tub 'butter'.

What brands should I look for to replace the tub butter ? Probably won't taste too hot, but, I have to make a change. What other kinds of choices do I have in a tub spread that is not high in saturated fat? I went to the American Heart Association website, but, they didn't mention by name any brand. Just said to deep fry in mono and poly oils.

Thanks !

Smart Balance for a low cholesterol diet.

I've never used it but I've seen the commercials on TV

That's why I usually have oatmeal or cold cereal or eggs prepared with 1/2 butter/1/2 oil.  I rarely have pancakes or waffles anymore due to the butter and syrup or jam that makes them yummy.  If I'm going to have butter, it will be spread thinly on whole wheat toast, and that's a weekend treat. Sounds worse than it actually is. After a while, it becomes the new normal.  I even learned to like black coffee this year.

I eat pancakes with maple syrup and never miss the butter.I prefer my corn on the cob plain so I can taste the fresh corn flavor. Why do we need to cover up the taste of our foods with butter.I make mashed potatoes with just milk and a little Greek yoghurt. The potatos taste really great if you boil a couple of garlic cloves along with to mash them in.Sprinkle some chives on top.

Just got back from the walmart and got the Can't believe it's not butter olive oil spread. Try that and see if I can go it. LOL

I was shocked when looking at the gallons of frying oil . Not much difference in sat fat even in the healthy alternatives . Peanut oil is sky high   $$$.  Think what I have to keep in mind is everything in moderation.

Just don't go nuts on deep fried foods, chips, etc.  I done gave up on sugar just on weekends can I have brownies, cake, pie, etc. Doing good, now , I guess I swung to far on the butter side and now I have to give that up too.

Guess I'll go stand in the field with the cows and horses and eat hay and water. LOL
