I saw an article where you sprinkle them on your food or put some in your food. They are suppose to make you feel fuller, so you eat less. Just wondering??

I use it in oatmeal, smoothies, yogurt, cereal....anything really.

Hi Barbarainnc,
I mix them in when I make oatmeal. I only use about a1/4 cup to a full cup of steel cut oats. You have to stir for awhile because they kinda gloop together. I don't know if they make me feel fuller but I have heard they are good for you. I have also added some to the breads I make in the bread machine. Flax is very good for you too.
Best Wishes!

They are just a superfood. Never made me fuller or curbed my appetite.

I just sprinkle onto my yogurt. I bought a bag but finished it. I don't recall it making me fuller, perhaps I didn't sprinkle enough. Don't think II will buy more.

I think that the seeds have to be ground, in order for them to have any effect, otherwise they pass through your body undigested, like kernels of corn.

Barbara, Chia seeds are what is known as a "super food". It is a plant based food that is high in omega 3 (as well as flex seed meal). Omega 3 is the healthy healthy fat which helps brain and heart health and can only be found in plants (more-so than omega 6, which is derived only from animals).
Unlike flax seed meal, chia seeds expand when mixed with liquid. They develop a little jelly like expansion on the exterior. Because of this, yes, they can "make you feel fuller longer". But they have so much more health benefits than just that.
Feel free to put them in anything! I put a tbs of both flax and chia seeds in my morning cereal, smoothie, salads, baked goods... where ever you can sneak them in.
Just a little tip, when mixing them into a smoothie, put the seeds in at the very end and blend on low for only a second. I say this because I have purred my smoothie (with chia seeds in) and when it sets for about 10 minutes it turns into a jello like pudding. When you simply blend it, it distributes the seeds so it doesn't turn into a gelled smoothie concoction.

What you are thinking of is Flax Seeds. Our bodies can only get a benefit if it is ground into a meal (or flour type substance).

ITA....flax seeds need to be ground for absorption, but chia seeds, no problem. You can combine chia seeds w/ almond milk, fruit & honey...let it set for 20-30 minutes & it makes a thick, creamy pudding. Yummy...and filling.

FYI....Don't use chia seeds if you have or are prone to having diverticulitis...no blueberries or strawberries either. I found this out the hard way!
