I went to Aldis last night to get a turkey fryer.  A spot on the shelf had price but was empty.  I asked if they had them and was told they had two come in.  I asked if others were coming and was told no to be at the store at 9 a.m. to get one.

I drove approx 20 miles for this item.  I went on line and got it for same price and will be delivered in 3-5 days.

Re: Aldi rip off

[ Edited ]

Sometimes my Aldi's doesn't get everthing in the flyer, on time. It's a week later or so. I wouldn't call it a rip-off. Their quality, prices, and guarantee makes up for any supply mess up.

I always count on not being able to get a hit seasonal item ,no matter what store.  I don't consider it a ripoff. A bummer, yes.

It's at the least bad business practice to advertise things that often a store can't deliver. It is bait and switch--Sears got in bad trouble for that at one time.  As I remember it was Sears. . .

I'm tired of stores putting in flyers and/or their websites about new products, designer fashions at the stores.  Kohl's does this all the time.  I saw in a flyer of their's some weeks ago about a new designer bringing her wears to the store, really nice things that I for one wanted to check out.  A couple of days later I went to my local kohl's to see the items.  I searched high and low for the racks of them.  Sales person pointed me to one tiny rack and said this is all we got in - there were 3 items.  There were tons of things on the website however.  I'm not buying stuff off of a website that I cannot try on, feel it, see how they look on.

I guess it boils down to shopping here at QVC, HSN, EVINE LIVE and the like.

Aldi's brings in items for their non-food specialty aisles all the time, in fact each Aldi's in my area does not even bring in the same items, however, they have no idea of how popular these items will be.  Can't blame them for how quickly people pick up an item.

This week they are advertising that grocery shoppng cart bag that hangs on the sides of the cart for $6.99. I have seen them elsewhere for 9.99. I hope there are some left when I get there.

I'm done with P.C. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. It's easier.

So - why is this a rip-off?  Or even a bait and switch as another poster said?

OP didn't pay more for the item nor was she sent to buy a buy expensive one.

I'd be disappointed if I'd needed it that day, but mildly because the turkey is still arriving and I didn't even have to get it in and out of my car.

I don't understand.  When you buy items from a TV merchant, you are not seeing it, feeling itetc.  What's the difference?

i do.most of my shopping on the web and have for about 20 years.  I hate to have to go into a store and look for things only to find it isn't there, or not in my size, color etc.

Just curious - would they have given you a raincheck?  Of course, you'd driven twenty miles so that may not have been a good solution in your case.

I don't know what state you are in, but all of the ALDI stores in the two divisions that I am familiar with, and that includes many stores, slot the merchandise on Tuesday for the special buys that begin on Wednesday. The items are not supposed to be out on Tuesday night, unless they received more items than anticipated.
