Re: $55.89 for a cheesecake ?!?

Native New Yorker here, who loves New York style cheesecake, but I absolutely can't stand Junior's cheesecake, even when I had it at Junior's Restaurant (and agree it is not worth the price QVC charges).

Absolutely shocked by the inflated price I saw for a Juniors 8" pumpkin cheesecake on QVC today.  A comparable cheesecake (Pumpkin Spice) is selling for $6.99 at Trader Joes. People really need to shop around. QVC should be ashamed of itself selling items at such an up-mark.

But QVC isn't ashamed. Their goal is to sell for as high a price as possible. If you can't afford it, don't purchase it.

The good think is that we all have choices. And can spend  for cake from $6 to $60.Each and everybody decided for himself according to taste wish money and a lot of more which is nobody business.

@Pook :  Why do you say Costco 's is "faux"?  I've had a lot of cheesecakes( from nasty to devine) in my seven decades and their cheesecake is very good and definitely the real deal!

@chessylady I make them too!

For another twenty bucks, you can buy an Insta Pot and make your own. They could NOT be easier!

I even make a keto version for some close friends who are on the diet.

They come out perfect every time for the price of two eggs, two 8 oz packages of cream cheese, a little butter, and some graham cracker crust. AND, you can top them with whatever you want.

I consider myself a decent baker, but I can't make a good cheesecake. I have bought junior's a few times, but I agree Costo has an excellent cheesecake for a fraction of the price.

Re: $55.89 for a cheesecake ?!?

Personally, I can't justify spending that on a cheesecake. For the past several years I have purchased Harry London Christmas candy with tins because I not only got treats but decorations for that price to give or keep. This year the price has gone up and there are no tins so I won't be purchasing. Instead I will donate the money I would have spent to add to the other donations I always make - just part of my Christmas budget. Everyone has a right to spend their money the way they want. To often we think we "need" an item when in reality we "want" an item. There is a difference.

Re: $55.89 for a cheesecake ?!?

I used to buy fresh cheesecakes from Junior’s when I lived on the lower east side. They were always fresh and delicious. The one time I purchased a frozen one, it had freezer burn and was inedible. Aside from the inflated price, that is why I would only buy a cheesecake locally and from either a good bakery or place like a Trader Joe’s where I know I can trust the quality. Even at the best bakery in town, the most I’d pay for a cheesecake this size is $40, and that’s still too much. Also, I have the best recipe in the world for NY cheesecake which takes 7 packages of Philly cream cheese. When it goes on sale, I can make this size for around $10.

What most see as a cheesecake are really just  hack recipes that have cream cheese and graham cracker crust.  Because of the cream cheese flavor it tastes good but not a real cheesecake that should have heavy whipping cream (not sourcream), the best vanilla and cream cheese and NOT graham cracker crust but sponge cake or cookie crust!!  Some so called cheesecakes are not even baked or because of lack of enough mixing and proper ingredients not baked in a water bath.  Costco like ones would be tossed in the garbage in an authentic cheesecake competition.   Call them cheesecake if you want but...

After the real thing, the others no longer taste good to me.  juniors is rated the best cheesecake consistently.

Re: $55.89 for a cheesecake ?!?

When I was married and lived in Brooklyn, I lived in Clinton Hill and it was less than a mile away from Junior's.  I worked next door to the then Trade Towers/Freedom Towers, and once a week a few of us would walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn.  Our reward was stopping at Junior's to get one slice (which were huge back then) to take home.  It was the best cheesecake I have ever eaten.

Fast forward 25 years (and living in VA); I should not eat cheesecake because of the lactose, so I only have it a couple of times a year.  But I still send my sister the Christmas swirl one every year because she loves it!

That price is reasonable for what you get.  There is absolutely no comparison to Trader Joe's cheesecake.
