Re: whatever happened to jade?

I saw some nice jade on ShQ yesterday. Well, some of it was in gold and there was some costume, unfortunately. But the gold pieces were nice.

It's a terrible shame about the Burma situation. The only rubies I love are Burmese rubies - beautiful red red and some nice clarity. I have several that I've had for years. No other rubies are within a galaxy of Burmese rubies.

The only rubies I see on shopping channels anymore are either completely opaque, or opaque ones that they have shot something into to create some sort of faux clarity (not!). If that weren't bad enough, they are always in silver or mystery metal. Well, truth be told, rubies of that poor quality don't deserve to be set into gold.

But if you can find great rubies, it's totally worth it. As for the jade, there is jade from other areas, but the Chinese jade is very nice.

Re: whatever happened to jade?

With all the jewelry coming out of China, there was still a problem guaranteeing the jade was NOT from Burma.

I miss the jade too. Have 2 pieces from when it was on QVC.

Re: whatever happened to jade?

I bought several pieces back in the day, both from Q and HSN so I won't be buying any more. But I do still love watching the jade shows, especially around the Chinese New Year.

I still have and wear a beautiful 14k gold multi-color jade bracelet I got at QVC probably 10 yrs ago. I miss the jade shows as well. Wasn't aware about the banning.

The jade shows were great! Judy Crowell hosted many of them and it was interesting to watch and so much to learn.

My jade pieces are treasured! I have the large round disc jade pendant featuring two ""half"" moons. It is on a long black thread with a red jade piece incorporated in the cord. Also a 14k/jade ring. My 14k/jade bangle bracelet from my last trip to Hawaii is my most prized. Has the look of bamboo etched into the gold and the bangle itself is a carved dragon design. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it!

Happy I have the few pieces I do....jade is a fascinating stone.

I have the lavender jade ring circled by amethysts that was sold by QVC in various colors. I also have several green jade rings and bracelets. I like wearing jade.

Re: whatever happened to jade?

Jade also comes in many grades and often the items offered on the shopping channels is dyed. Undyed precious jade is hard to find without paying a premium price for it. I have a beautiful precious jade bangle in a soft lavender green and I know my grandfather paid well over $5K for it 22 years ago. The Burma jade is the best and its hard to get here due to the issues there.
