When my grandma passed away I received her diamond ring. I had it made into a pendant. I should wear it more often than I do and not save it for "good wear". Life is too short.

"I received a promise ring from my boyfriend when I was 15. It was a white gold heart with a small diamond in the
center.
When I was 16 he gave me another promise ring with a bigger diamond.
When I was 18, he gave me a diamond engagement ring.
I married him when I was 19. For our 40th Anniversary, I got a 2ct diamond anniversary band.
I have purchased a few diamond items on my own, but never received any diamonds from anyone else, but my husband.
I still wear my original diamond engagement ring and have for 54 years."
Your story is similar to mine.
My now-husband bought, off late night TV, a cheap gold clad ring with a diamond chip centered in a heart and presented it to me when I was 15. I still have it and am now nearly 60.
My actual diamond engagement ring, given to me when we married when I was 18, has been soldered to the matching wedding band an is too small for me to wear except on my pinky finger, so I've set it aside to give to our son if he wants to use it for his future.
I've since set a diamond inherited by my same grandma into a designer ring that I periodically wear as my wedding ring. My mom has also given me her vintage engagement ring that has an old rose cut center with two pearls on either side. I wear that rarely because it's fragile.
But, I really am hoping for a final ring from my husband.
A vintage emerald cut diamond ring.
Congratulations on your long marriage. We have our 42nd this year!

"My boyfriend during my Senior year of high school asked me to marry him shortly before Christmas. In my usual "tactful way", I replied that we hadn't sewn any wild oats yet. And I was not ready.
And it happened that my Dad wanted to take the family on a cruise to the Bahamas over Christmas holiday. So pretty much the entire Christmas holiday I was in Florida or the cruise.
It wasn't until I got home that I found out that my boyfriend had inherited money from his Grandfather's estate. My boyfriend used his inherited money to buy me a 3 carat diamond ring. He had taken the ring to school and shown everyone (except me) before our Christmas holiday.
I had no clue he bought a ring. There was a big party during the Christmas holiday. My boyfriend of course attended and since I was not around another girl "moved in".
As soon as I came home, another guy asked me out. I was shocked someone would ask me out. And he told me what happened at the party while I was gone. My now former boyfriend was hurt that I did not want to get engaged at Christmas. And now someone else "moved in" on him at the party. So we were done.
I never got to see the ring in person. But I was told it was beautiful.
He married girlfriend #2. I got to see the ring briefly at a Class Reunion. But they got divorced shortly after the reunion.(It was painful to watch them interact together). He slipped me his phone number at the reunion. But I was married by then. And I was not about to mess up my life.
Since my husband and I eloped I never got a diamond engagement ring. If he got me an engagement ring, people would be questioning when is the wedding. And we had seen enough family members and their intrusive input into weddings and decided to elope. So the only diamonds I got were diamond stud earrings. That I never wear."
Your story should be made into a movie!
It's good you found out before you married guy number one that he could so easily be lured away. *hug*

This is a fantastic topic with so many great stories and memories!
I was never a fan of wearing rings. My mother, after my father passed away, purchased a 1.5 carat diamond ring. She said it was for me (eventually)to make up for the fact that she had spent so much money on the grandkids over the years and I did not have any children.
She gave it to me after she got diagnosed w/terminal cancer. She was worried about my sister and SIL. Funny thing is that after she died, I got an email from my SIL asking where the ring went. Eventually my brother bought her a "big diamond".

My first diamond I found in the gutter near the school bus stop when I was fourteen. It was a small diamond in a gold ring. Took it home and showed my mom. She took it to a jeweler and yes it was indeed a real diamond set in real gold. Very small diamond but nonetheless a real one. đź’Ť

My DH gave me my first diamond in an engagement ring. I told him we couldn't afford a ring. He insisted anyway. It's a very tiny diamond and I still wear it every day and cherish it. I had to have it reset into a new ring because the band and setting on the original was worn away. I bought an identical setting to the ring he had picked out so carefully so many years ago, but more substantial. Hopefully it will last me another 40 years.
