Good morning and happy Sunday to us all.
A brisk 45 degrees right now, little breeze and brilliant sunshine. Looks like it may be a spectacular fall day.
My 50th HS reunion was a bit of a disappointment. I suppose I shouldn't have expected more since I never bothered to keep up friendships, but I was so hoping to reconnect with a few special people and they were no-shows.
Where it was held was nothing very special, and in some regards a bit run down. The food reminded my DH and myself of the numerous football banquets we've attended with our sons over their playing careers, only the food at the football banquets was much better. There was a DJ playing songs from our youth, but very few people took advantage of it and danced. DH & I twirled around once during a slow one.
Lots and lots of photos were displayed on cardboard posters throughout the room, as well as school newspapers from our era, which were published twice monthly, were bound and displayed as well.
Almost immediately a man I knew immediately came over to speak. I had forgotten that we had traveled through elementary and high school together. He was always the shortest and I was always the tallest in our class. It was good to see him and he looked very well. I next met a man who was part of male twins who traveled through advisory throughout HS together. I remembered him very well, and he said vice versa, as he and his brother were known as the "Running Twins," for before it became popular, they were runners. Unfortunately, his brother died last winter.
We did and elementary school picture of those of us who were there, as certain schools feed into certain HSs. I was able to speak to several people I had not seen in 50 years, including a man who went on to become a founding editor of a very popular city magazine.
Once the pictures were finished, and with a hour left on reunion time, we left.
I wore a moss green dress, long sleeves and with a split open collarless collar black tights and short black boots. A JR black sting ray clutch came along too. Jewelry was all Miss Judie except for diamond rings on my wedding fingers and they were all the rings I wore. Earrings were couture diamond hoops. Necklace, tucked inside my dress and twinkling and peeking out each time I moved, was a citrine bib necklace from years ago; it also came in amy and, I believe, was the first of the GG pieces, which I regret not purchasing. Left wrist was the regent watch in YG clad and my sunflower cuff. Right wrist was the Sunshine cuff - what else? With this cuff on my right wrist I needed nothing else - no rings nor any other bracelet.
It's hard to come to terms that 50 years has passed since HS. The memories are so vivid still and it seems like only yesterday that they occurred. On the other side, during these past 50 years my live has been very full and exciting, and all those memories seems fresh and new too. I guess this is what happens to our memories as we get older.
Off to the paper and some tea.
Make it a great week!
