Yo! 1/1/11 Healthy New Year!

Good morning and happy Saturday and a very healthy new year to us all.

Weather is a bit warmer than usual for the date. Some dense fog is expected by mid-day if the temps keep rising. Except for the fog, pretty good weather for the Mummers' Parade.

DS#1 is in a holding pattern, but not doing too well. He's got a low grade fever and alternates between the chills and being hot, as well as having diarrhea. He was treated with antibiotics for a sinus infection, but hasn't had it for a few days. He's very sensitive to antibiotics and has developed c-dif three separate times in the past because of taking them. Usually flagel (sp) is piggybacked with antibiotics so that the good bacteria doesn't get wiped out, which they say is not the case this time. The constant heaving has disappeared which we hope is a good sign for the future. However, this is all tempered by him taking nothing by mouth. The true test will come when he tries to swallow water again, which I suppose will not come until after Thursday's scoping. His mood, as you can imagine form someone in his situation and going into his fifth week of hospitalization, is very dark, not helped at all by feeling virusy.

I feel awful that I've added to his misery by wiping out all his information on his smart phone. The phone had not been holding a charge for quite some time; he'd been using my phone for the past weeks. He has begged us to take it to the store to get it fixed which, on Thursday, DH spent the entire day running all over the place doing just that. He even had to make an appointment at the store to get to see a tech person! (Meanwhile, neither of us have a smart phone. We don't even have messaging capabilities on our phones! Our phones are just phones, so we know very little about this.) When DH got to speak to the tech person he was also able to have DS and this person speak together about his phone and map out what to do. The tech person wrote out, step by step, how I was to connect it to my computer and what to do to restore all his data. I did it all and we took the phone to him yesterday and all of his apps, along with all his data, was gone. I have searched my computer to see if any of it is hidden and, except for his pictures and all sort of error messages connected to his phone, I can find nothing. For months, while he'd had problems with this phone, I had resisted using my computer to update/correct his phone. It seems by instincts were correct. I feel so bad and there seems to be nothing I can do to correct the situation.

That's where we all right now with DS.

Thank you to those who posted the information about Johns Hopkins and the NYTIMES article. I appreciate your concern and getting additional information to me to peruse.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and a fabulous 2011!

Make it a great day!
