Worlds Most Expensive Turquoise

It's called Lander Blue and it's from Nevada.  One day several women casino employees went on a picnic.  At the site they chose, they found this pretty blue stone loose on the ground.  Eventually a little over 150lbs was harvested.  That's all there was.

It's of such fine quality and is so rare that it's the most sought after turquoise in the world.  I'd love to know what someone paid for this 1ct stone but it's a beauty.

That's a fascinating story about Lander Blue. I had no idea it started with casino employees on a picnic, and that only about 150 lbs were ever harvested really explains why it is so scarce and expensive.

I also wonder what that 1-carat stone ultimately sold for. It truly is a beautiful gem.

@hiltonlee981 - You might want to spellcheck the first couple of lines of your post.  It makes no sense at all.

Been there and done both!!!!!

I am not a turquoise collector, mainly because I usually wear yellow gold, but THAT is gorgeous.

I understand the limited amount of that deposit makes it more valuable, but to me, too much dark veining. I am a fan of the veining in some turquoise but not that dark or thick. Interesting story tho.

It is gorgeous!  The white flecks of quartz, and the deep black veins are so unexpected.  I would love to have a ring or a pendant of Lander Blue!

@Twoaces.  What appears to be white flecks is actually pyrite and in person, looks like metallic gold.  There are some mines where this is quite commmon.

Re: Worlds Most Expensive Turquoise

Thanks for that.  I wasn't sure!  I don't have it in any of my turquoise.  And I realize that I have a pendant with the black webs running through, though I doubt that it is Lander blue.....wouldn't that, have been a nice surprise!
