I was thinking I could cut it off, put an enhancer bale on it to use elsewhere, then use the necklace for many of my CP and other pendants. I held the new silver naja up to it and it looked smashing. This is the type of chain(?) that is the base for many squash blossom necklaces. What do you think, should I do it?
I couldn't get a really good photo of the pendant. Any light washes it out.
Wowie .. busy for a few days, and I missed so much! Oh Kachina, the necklace is beautiful! I do especially love those beads, and I think so many enhancers would look FAB on them . . definitely your new naja! What is the length of the beads? Thanks for starting the thread!

Hi haca, and thank you too for re-posting all the great pics!
Sharke - a woman after my own heart . . I love rhodochrosite too, and your pieces are just outstanding! I love the saturation of the pink, and the lovely swirls of white are perfection. Your other pieces are beauteous too! I'm still searching for the perfect, bold N.A. pendant, although I can't afford it just yet. Boy do I hate seeing something I love when I can't afford it lol.
Keep the pics and great info comin' everyone!

Kachina - I'm diggin' your rings (above), and I especially love the Bisbee - the stone is fab, but I also have a thing for bead work (rope designs and scalloped edges are a close second). Love the hunk 'O stones in all of them!

Thank you, hun. I seem to be more attractive to the pinky stones and I like the striations of white cloudiness that runs thru the rhodo pieces. silvertribe.com has some great stuff!

Sharke and sisters, I turned on JTV because I couldn't sleep (too much coffee I guess) and they were selling rhodochrosite in smaller stones. And here comes the clincher, they had a translucent one - I had never heard of rhodochrosite as translucent - but there it was and described as VERY rare indeed. The price was accordingly - into the thousends. Now personally I like the stones you have and Jug as well. I, too, love the white swirls in them. I'll check out the place you mentioned. Since you love pink, I thought I share with you. The translucent pink was a very deep pink.

It's much more apparent in person. The ring is big and chunky and short on design elements. Most of my turquoise is old Indian jewelry.
The middle ring is Cerrillos, or is supposed to be. This is the largest ring I own, like a saucer. Cerrillos is just a few miles South of Santa Fe and this mine may be the oldest in the US. The locals traded it in ancient times and it's been found as far South as Central America. It was owned at one time by Louis Comfort Tiffany who helped popularize turquoise. There was a series of mines in the Cerrillos Hills, some are on private land and others are now a state park. All of them are closed. You rarely see this turquoise which is why I wonder if my ring is actually from that mine. It's the right color.
The last ring is probably Chinese. I included it because I wanted you to see what a coin edge looks like. It used to be more popular than it is now. I bought it at a shop in Old Town, Albuquerque where an Indian silversmith sits and makes their jewelry and can size it on the spot.
Enjoy.
Kachina, thank you for sharing new (for us) treasures. I definitely like all of the designs because the main player is the stone. The Chinese stone looks a bit like #8 - my eye is not trained enough to immediately see the difference. l would love the "middle" stone as the center on a cuff, lol. It's gorgeous.
I am going to photograph a very chunky necklace that was sold to me as turquoise in a second hand shop in Charleston, SC. My immediate reaction, that couldn't be - the big flat stones are just that too big for the price I paid. It is very pretty. I wonder if it is an example of dyed "howlite"? Give me a little to get it onto the thread. I love it though and I get positive comments right and left whenever I wear it. I tell everyone that it probably isn't turquoise but everyone admires it nevertheless.

Interesting ! It's just so much on the market, now days, no way I can keep up with it all. Whether it's new southwestern types of stones, gold market, precious metal mkt. They come out with what I call 'poor man's' imitations of more pricey stones you have to have a degree to keep up with it all. Jay King is on right now . He's not the best of speakers, but, he knows what he's talking about when he's able to get the words out. I like to hear of his adventures.
