My last plane flight to Florida taught me one thing.  The hub airline we fly takes your carryon and puts it up front out of view due to restricted space.  So if you have pills or jewelry in it you are in for a bit of anxiety. I normally try to travel with neutral pieces that will go with anything, like white agate in Florida or a set of all gold or all silver.  Then you can wear it all and not risk leaving it in your hotel room or condo.  Have you ever thought about how many keys are floating around for any rental property?  And there is one thing about Diamonique that has always bothered me.  Why would anyone in their right mind wear a huge karat piece just in case they are robbed?  Too tempting, and you might get injured.

I have a large jewelry roll with tabs like the one ECBG has pictured earlier in this thread.  I holds pearl strands to fine gold necklaces.  I hope you have a great trip.
