I'm noticing something strange with silver rings lately. The rings with CZs or quartz get rather substantial settings, whether rhodium or vermeil plated. Use a semi-precious stone like the tanzanite in Colleen's three stone ring and you get wispy light weight silver settings. I've noticed this in several lines lately.

I imagine they are using settings that flatter the stones. Some stones are heavier and need a stronger structure ... some stones need more light passing through ... and marketing, someone buying tanzanite probably wants the look of fine jewelry.
