Actually, I've always preferred turquoise with a matrix.  To me, I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between SBT and plastic.  Too perfect for me.  I hope they start bringing back what they used to sell as turquoise, during which time the hosts would always rave about the matrix!!!!

Me too.  I like turq with matric, large stones in heavy sterling settings.

Count me in on the matrix.    I think it gives the turquoise "personality" !!

Amen!

I recall back in the '70s when real silver and turquoise jewelry were all the rage.  Mainly styles that were made or appeared to be made by native American Indians. The material was filled with beautiful matrix and was so interesting.

Eventually inexpensive fashion jewelry appeared.  One color blue "stones" made of plastic set in a metal.  My mom had the good stuff,  I had the cheap fake stuff.

Sadly, Sleeping Beauty reminds me of the fake cheap turquoise.

Re: Sleeping Beauty Turquoise

I also appreciate tourqoise with a matrix and as one poster said, the matrix gives a certain character to the tourquoise.  I have, however, thought that the tourquise without matrix, the "Sleeping Beauty" sort , had its own beauty, and never to me, looked like plastic.  Perhaps it takes a trained eye.

Well I love both with matrix or without. I was on WL for the 20" YG necklace j326937 and just received it yesterday. I have the bracelet and it is a beauty.....don't know if I'll keep the necklace....it is stunning, but not sure if it will lay right....and for the price....it has to be perfect.

Re: Sleeping Beauty Turquoise

I agree with the OP that it gets tiring to hear the same ole' story over and over.  Yes, the "Sleeping Beauty" mine is closed, but there are other places in the world where they can still find similar looking turquoise, such as the famed Persian turquoise of old.  The Sleeping Beauty mine was a good source for robin's egg blue, matrix-free turquoise, but it is not the ONLY source for that type of stone.

Sleeping Beauty is the new Tanzanite.  Only found in one spot on Earth in 1967 and very, very rare.  Get it while you can!  When is the next Tanzanite show?

A vendor presents their product as if the viewer knows nothing about it.   Now, if you choose to watch the same shows over and over, well, there's not much that can be done about that.

I just took a peek, it's a beautiful necklace but you're right, for the price, it has to be perfect
