Right earrings with a statement necklace

Just splurged on a large stone clear crystal necklace that I hope goes with a lot of my tops/sweaters. I held off on this purchase because I have many large sterling pieces and tops with statement type necklines. My question , what would be the appropriate earring to go with this? Should I wear diamond studs or go bigger. I have several larger drop stone earrings.

When I wear a signature necklace, I generally downplay earrings, to let the focal point shine.

Small ones or none. I go by the French rule of none with a bigger necklace.
