Hi, everyone. I am a long time RLM lover and collector, but I have a question for all of you. I just pulled out my "tablet" ring that I bought YEARS ago, and I noticed that there were some scratches on the side of the ring. Normally, that's really no big deal...but the scratches were black. So again, I thought no big deal...figuring the "coating" they used was scratched and the sterling silver underneath had tarnished. I figured using some sterling silver cleaner would take care of it. Only it didn't.
Then I remembered that I had one of his leather necklaces that had tubular sterling silver stations on it, that had tarnished really, really badly. I had tried removing the tarnish, and nothing helped. It was so bad that I threw the necklace away and just chalked it up to one bad experience...but now with the problem with my tablet ring, I'm wondering if he's not using a base metal UNDER sterling silver? And when you think about the sheer weight of that tablet ring, it would kind of make sense...BUT the ring was SOLD as sterling silver.
Has any one else had this kind of experience? I'm just curious because I placed an order for one of his rings today and I'm afraid he's using mystery metal under the silver. If this is the case...it really breaks my heart because I love him and his stuff.
TIA.
