Re: Pre Owned Rings/Necklaces

@Mistreatedbycs   Maybe 3/4 of my jewelry is "pre-owned"...inherited from family and they owned estate jewelry, so who knows how far back or the the story behind those pieces? I do know that I love the intricate details and workmanship of the pieces that's difficult to find in jewelry is now mass produced.

When purchasing estate jewelry, it's carefully cleaned before going into the case. That's not an issue. maybe my creative mind loves to make up stories about who wore the piece, what their life was like, who may have given it to them, etc.

BTW, unless lab created, many diamonds purchased could be used...sold to dealers or jewelers and then re-set.

Re: Pre Owned Rings/Necklaces

I currently am bidding on a local online estate auction of a QVC lover.  The gold rings are much heavier than those offered now days.  Many will bid to scrap these rings out but they are my size and I will come up with a couple of gems, pardon the pun.

Estate jewelry is everyone should go everytime they're in a jewelry store.  I go there all the time.  I prefer it to ebay (although that might be cheaper)  I want to examine it right away.

There are some great antique shows I have attended that also feature cases and cases of estate antique jewelry.

I love looking at the history of jewelry based on the way the styles have changed--Georgian, Victorian, Art Deco, and so forth.

The prices can be high, but most pieces have greater gold weight, more diamond carat weight, and a lot more detail and elaborate work than the modern pieces for sale in stores.

I actually like knowing that a jewelry piece was somebody else's precious treasure, and I hope I can keep my items in good shape and pass them down so somebody will also want to wear them hundreds of years from now.

I PREFER the vintage pieces over any of the new jewelry out there.  I have many and they are so ornate and rich looking in the design.  The color and clarity are beyond measure. Love the platinum pieces and the 14K solid gold ones. They were not afraid to use the gold in their designs copared to today how skimpy most items are in gold wieght.

You are perfectly fine.  All the jewelry is cleaned for that matter.

Re: Pre Owned Rings/Necklaces

I have bought a lot of estate (vintage) jewelry on Ebay. I love the art deco look and gold weights are usually more than you get in jewelry stores today. My only fear is being ripped off by someone passing something fake off as genuine.

One of my favorite searches on ebay in jewelry is "vintage qvc silver". Makes me remember the wonderful, quality silver that Q use to offer especially on those Sunday mornings with Jane. Miss that.

We have a big indoor/outdoor flea market here. There are usually many vendors there selling estate jewelry. You just have to know what to look for. I like going to where they sell loose gems and mineral specimens. One time I found a rough piece of rhodochrosite from the now closed Colorado Sweet Home Mine. It's so nice.

My fav stone.   I've got a big ol cuff, smaller stone cuff, and a pendant

always on the look out for rhodochrosite.  Carolyn Pollack has lots of

rhodonite, but, I like the darker pink.

Years ago before all this virus stuff, I walked into several jewelry stores that offered preowned jewelry pieces, called the case "estate jewelry".

I've never been interested in purchasing anything from that case probably silly but I'm not aware of the life these people had?

@Mistreatedbycs   What on earth would that have to do with the jewelry? Unless you think that like the Hope Diamond there is some sort of curse on it?

It's just metal and stones.

@Sooner

No different than a house.

I've heard so many stories from relatives throughout the years with personal possessions, I wanted to know if any of you did too?
