Pearl length and age

Just curious, I tried to give one of my daughters a long strand of pearls and I got the Matronly Response. Am I missing something. Perhaps it is my advanced age but are certain lengths for certain ages. I guess I don't get it. I am very short so I don't wear long strands of anything. I like SHORT because I am short. But I am confused by LENGTH and AGE.

I am asking this question because there was a post reply with someone not wanting the TSV because of length and they said something about Matronly. It was like my daughters response. I know my daughter is not on this forum.
