I have a necklace that is to long and thought I could use a magnetic clasp to make it shorter when I wear it....is that possible?

@Mom2Dogs.  I have a number of magnetic clasps that i really love for necklaces but can't determine how they'd work to shorten a necklace.  Perhaps you could describe what you have in mind?

I think I'd consider asking a jeweler if he/she could shorten it.

What kind of necklace is it? The type and size of the links in your necklace would make a difference in what kind of shortener to buy.

I don't understand how that would work, I think taking it to a jeweler is the best option.

If it's on a chain - check etsy for:

Infinity Clips- Necklace Shortener, Chain Shortener, Clasp for Necklace

May include: How to use infinity clips. Three images show a woman wearing a necklace with a gold infinity clip. The first image shows the necklace at a longer length. The second image shows the woman twisting the necklace to the front and attaching the infinity clip. The third image shows the woman repositioning the infinity clip at the back of her neck. The image also shows a close-up of the infinity clip with a silicone insert and a safety clasp.

I bought a couple of those infinity clips, but found they don't clasp onto all chains strongly enough to hold them, plus they are very, very heavy, and will pull the necklace down your back, turning it into a choker-length necklace, whether that's what you wanted or not.  @ThinkingOutLoud   if you have tried these and found a way around that problem, please share your trick!

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

Since I have not seen a magnetic clasp in person to see how it works I just thought maybe attachng one end to the necklace and the other to portion of the chain at the back I could shorten the length...does not sound possible.

I did see the suggestion for other things to purchase that might shorten what I have...thanks!!

@Mom2Dogs  The only way that technique would work is if you have a chain with a large, open link, like the "paperclip" necklaces that were so popular for a while.  You can find fairly small magnetic clasps, but if your necklace does not have an open enough link to fit the clasp end of the magnet through a link, then it won't work.  Can you post a photo of your chain?

It would help to know what kind of necklace you need help with but thought of a couple other options.

Knot it and either let your blouse cover it or tie a bow/ribbon if it'll be seen.

Or do something like this:
