Mr. Katz has touted the closing of this factory of 'glass pearls' for a long time. 'Fake' or inexpensive pearls are readily available today as a substitute. I doubt this is the reason for the discontinuation of this line.

Um, glass pearls are fake pearls. And, I agree, that's not the reason for ending the line. Majorica still makes glass pearls.

I respectfully disagree..not all "fake" pearls are created equally. Most wealthly women in the mid and early 20th century wore well made glass pearls because cultured pearls didn't exist yet. Real pearls were very rare. With two world wars in the twentieth century the real pearl industry hardly existed at all.

Have you ever seen the JBK glass pearls..they are stunning and in my opinion are unlike any fake pearls I have ever seen. They have more luster than my honora pearls..(not knocking honora)..but its true. I love my real pearls..but i love these too. I have the double strand, and I just ordered the triple.

I think if you watch the video presentation of Item J149774..Mr. Katz explains it beautifully.

Re: Kennedy Collection - Did I misunderstand Sandra?

Since Mr. Katz himself has declared that the he can't envision the line going on without these pearls, I think we can safely assume that's the case, since HE of all people should know. There are currently no pearls that can match the ones that were being used for this collection, including Majorca. Majorca is probably the closest thing to it, but still not quite the same.

The pieces are so pretty. I feel like I need to buy something right away. The shows were always so interesting and informative.

I wish they'd put more pieces on easy pay. I'm afraid after this visit, there wont be much left!

I think Caroline probably wanted to stop it, maybe in timing w/the end of a contract? She is in Japan now as our Ambassador. Rest of the family is gone. So sad, I enjoyed the presentations.

I heard that too.

Scottie I have that pink kunzite ring and it is a stunner.

GReat! We are looking forwrd to getting it. We also have the triple strand pearl necklace they've been showing today, the wedding bracelet with pearls around it, the long pearl necklace J151120 with the rose clasp, severl of the crosses and I have that gorgeous huge pin that I think is a Sunflower? It is all "diamonds" . The one Jackie used to wear in her hair sometimes. Always get compliments on it. Also another necklace I don't know how to describe it looks like blue sapphires.

My friend has that paperclip necklace and it looks very nice on her (gold).

I am so sorry to see this line of jewelry retire. I love his presentations, in fact I always DVR them..they are the only QVC show that I have set on my DVR.

Mr. Katz got a little choked up as he announced they were retiring the line and he said he was "heartbroken" about it.

From what he said it sounded like the main reason that they were retiring the line is that the last factory that made the pearls closed. Making these particular glass pearls is truly an art form that is lost now he said. They tried to get a factory in Korea to make them, but he said they were substandard quality. Apparantly the same factories that made Coco Channel pearls were still making his and that most of the workers were in their 80s and finally retired. Not enough young people wanted to learn the art..as apparantly it is tedious work.

He said you cant have a JBK line of jewelry without her signature pearls.

I went ahead and ordered the triple strand of pearls..I have had my eye on them for a long time, but I figured now or never.

I wish they would come out with a line of iconic jewelry replications. Not one person, but have pieces from different fashion icons..like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepurn..even Princess Diana. It would be fun to hear the stories and see the photos.

ETA: What fashion icons jewelry would you all like to see?

You named them! I think I would also like to see the Duchess of Windsor pieces.

Re: Kennedy Collection - Did I misunderstand Sandra?

Does anybody know if the Camrose and Kross company is going to stop making this jewelry entirely? Or is it only QVC. The fact that they are destroying molds sounds like perhaps they are going to stop making it altogether?

Chrystaltree, people will miss the shows because they admired and remember Jackie fondly, and because Mr. Katz is low-key and informative, hype-free. Doesn't tell viewers, "It's only a dollar a day." Because it's something many have enjoyed over the years, much more than most other presentations. It's an interesting program.

Well said, happygal!!!! A lot of us enjoy these low-key shows and I enjoy Mr. Katz also. I don't post on these boards often and it's mainly because of people like "Chrystaltree" and their comments. I don't like the drama, so I mainly just read. Thanks again for your positive comments.

I agree. It's the factory that made HER pearls was it not? These are heavier and different than the Majorca although theirs are beautiful also.

Wasn"t the Jackie collection exclusive to QVC? I have NEVER seen it anywhere else.
