Yes, that is a task that is very difficult for me, too, Someone on the forums wanted to see a John Hardy chain I purchased last summer. I think I spent about 20 minutes trying to load it directly from hard drive to the thread reply. I never got it to work. Someone else told me that you generally have to put the image on PhotoBucket, and upload from there. I didn't find that any easier.
