I purchased an Imperial Pearls freshwater multi-colored necklace and earring set from HSN back during their birthday month in July. It is beautiful and flawless, but since it arrived, I haven't worn it once because it just doesn't go with the casual style of clothes and the necklines (polo) I usually wear. I have many printed tops, and the necklace would look too "busy" if I wore them together. I am thinking of maybe just sending the necklace back and keeping the earrings, but I really bought them to go together, and frankly, I like the look and price of Honora much better.
I called, and I have until the end of September to return them, and I'll make my decision. I'm not asking whether you guys think I should return them or not. I was just curious if any of you have bought jewelry that there is nothing wrong with, but has just sat in your drawer because it just doesn't go with your style or your clothes. Thanks!

I was looking in my jewelry box and I have bought so much through the years that I don't use. I now only wear jewelry that has special meaning to me and that is very few pieces. I have so much Ripka that is the good old quality that I think is beautiful, but just don't wear. Priorities and values change in life.

I think all of us who have lots of jewelry have pieces we seldom wear and regret paying for, but we also have pieces we used to love wearing and now they just don't fit into our current lifestyle.
As for buying pieces and never wearing them? -- one of the best observations about that I remember reading was that "we often buy for the life we want to have, not for the life we're actually living." I do longer remember whether the writer was talking about jewlery or clothes, but does it matter?
@grammarqueenI have a hard time passing up pearls (much better now that Lisa is gone!), but I'd send those pearls back. You are not in love with them.

I have a whole jewel box full of yellow gold pieces, and these days all I wear is white metal. I'm not sure why, my taste just changed. I sold some gold, but the rest just sits there.

I am no help grammarqueen. I wear Tahitian pearls almost every day at home and the store. WALMART. Is it the length or the style you don't like. Restringing them to a shorter length may be easier for your lifestyle. If not send them back. Pearl earrings go fine with nothing else.

Oh Yes - I have lots of purchases. Many I did not even remember buying and sadly many are duplicates because I did not remember buying the same item in the first place. I cleaned out my jewelry drawer and there are lots of items that have never been taken out of the box.
Since they were never worn - I can't see selling the gold for pennies on the dollar.
I do not get "dressed up" nearly as often. And even my work clothing is more casual than even 5 years ago. So I don't wear bracelets, watches or necklaces anymore. It used to be I was fully accessorized. Now it is minimal.

I have a beautiful ring and pendant I bought from a dealer in Thailand before gold and silver prices shot up. They are set with large smokey quartz and the silver work is exquisite. I've had them 10 years and have never worn either. I just don't like smokey quartz. It's sort of "dead" with no life or sparkle.

Years ago I bought a blue topaz pendent and earrings, which I never wear because I don't like that shade of blue. I'm not sure why I bought them now. I have a bunch of watches I no longer wear. Even if they had batteries I wouldn't wear them. I just don't need a watch since I always have my cell phone now and I'm not into watches as a fashion statement. Except maybe steampunk ones.

My daughter has purchased many fashion necklaces from Francesca's and they turn quickly and horribly. We realize they are only fashion items but no other items from other stores have looked so bad. I have "junk" jewelry items that still look great after 20-30 years.

Yes, too many to describe (including pearls). Yes, they'd be beautiful with the perfect outfit at the perfect event....but then you get that perfect outfit for that perfect event, and realize you'd rather wear a gold set with it!
Send back those pearls while you! ![]()
