My grandparents came from Italy and I have been there 3 times in the past 4 years. I visit different areas every time, except for Rome which is a must see every time.
Since I have family there, I actually know some very lovely Italian women. What I don't see is what Lisa Robertson keeps talking about when she says "this is so Italian", "this is what Italian women wear", etc. We may be associating with different classes, economically speaking. Not all Italian women wear the kinds of things she refers to.
The Italian women I know do not wear big, over the top jewelry unless they might be dressing up for a very special occasion. However, I doubt even that. What I see are classic, pretty jewelry items, small in scale. Their clothes also are what we would call classic. Nothing over the top, very basic.
So, don't think all Italian women wear the big, chunky necklaces and bracelets. Their taste is much more subtle.
Now, if you want to talk about the RHONJ, those women are Americans of Italian heritage. Big difference!
