How Much For A Good Jewelry Box?

I've had a few Mele boxes over the years from QVC.  The last one I got was for my DH which was large with a glass top and watch rolls for his solar watch.  It was about $120 which was more that we had ever paid and it was not wood.  It's black leather like fabric.

Mine was getting too full so I ordered one very similar from Q not remembering the price of the last one.  It does not have glass and is also vinyl but it cost $200.  Once I compaired the prices I thought I got the wrong charge because now it is "no longer available."  A wood one (same size) is $100 from here.

Is there a reason or advantage to vinyl fabric?  There are no reviews on the $200 one I just got.  If anyone else got it could you please let me know if it is holding up?

Thank you,

Cathy

@Jackhound Mom  Pottery Barn has some marked down to $99 and if you sign up for emails you will receive an additional 15% OFF.  They have a large selection of jewelry boxes.  Cat Wink

Re: How Much For A Good Jewelry Box?

@Jackhound Mom   no, I have not had vinyl.  I actually bought 2 boxes that fit in a dresser.  They have a clear top bordered by fabric.  The problem is the fabric and clear plastic have separated.  This is a Lori Grenier (sp?) product and I contacted her customer service twice and never received an answer.  I will NEVER purchased anything from Lori again.

I have a Laurie Grinear (sp?) standing one, one on my dresser, smaller on beside that on the dresser, and I have a ring holder from HSN so I can see some of the other ones. I've collected quite awhile.

[ Edited ]

My favorite jewelry boxes came from Q 15+ years ago.  Lori Greiner offered them.  The first one I got was a hard plastic.  The second one I got was wood.  They were probably 20" long by 12" wide and about 4" deep.  It had 2 levels inside.  The top levels were removable trays and had 1 to 1-1/2" squares which were perfect for earrings and pendants.  The bottom layers had varying sized separations with anti-tarnish lining.  I still have these and they look like new.  I would love another but she doesn't bring them back.

I also have a Mele box with 88 squares that I use for earrings.  I prefer the vinyl because the fabric collects too much dust.  I got solid top because the glass will easily fall out or get pushed out with a little pressure.

Re: How Much For A Good Jewelry Box?

I prefer to not use dresser top jewelry boxes unless lined with treated fabric to keep jewelry from tarnishing. My biggest reason is theft. Nothing like a jewelry box in plain sight for a fast get away...also a jewelry armoire, over the door earring cases, etc.

The top 2 drawers of my dresser are deep enough to hold treated jewelry store display trays (not expensive if check wholesale jewelry supply catalogues). That’s where I keep my every day things that I wear most often. The pieces that I only wear occasionally are locked in a small safe bolted to the wall studs in my closet and connected to our alarm system.

Re: How Much For A Good Jewelry Box?

I love that brand and have one in the vinyl and one in cherry wood. I prefer the wood because I think that it preserves the jewelry longer. However, I am very pleased with the vinly watch keepr box.I actually thought the difference was just price. The wood one that I pruchased was twice the price of the vinly watch box. i think it is just a matter of personal preference. I haven't seen too many jewelry boxes (nice ones) advertised or listed on websites. Maybe they aren't selling or it's just shelf space in the stores. Who knows. I would choose the one that fits your jewelry needs.

Re: How Much For A Good Jewelry Box?

I have the curved stand-up swivel one of LG's and many boxes from HSN Prestige collection.  All of these have a tarnish liner.  I would never buy one if it didn't come with that fabric.  All my jewelry is sterling silver and I have yet to have to polish any of it.  The stand up one was $299 and the boxes are all reasonable.
