First of all, I enjoy the jewelry forum. Its fun to read about items posters have purchased, at QVC and elsewhere and why the love them or maybe why they were disappointed.
In the end, I trust my opinions and judgement, when I'm spending my money, but, it can also be very helpful to hear about other people's experiences.
Here's where the question comes in and what I don't get:
Someone starts a thread, sharing about an item they've bought and why they love it. They're not asking "is this a good piece, what do you think, tell me honestly" they're sharing about an item they're happy with.
Someone jumps on the thread, and basically tells them, you're taste is awful and the piece is junk. They may say it a little more politely, but, the intent is obvious.
Why? I might share the second posters opinion, heck, everybody who reads the thread might. But, what pleasure does anyone get in going out of their way to make someone feel badly? To hurt someone's feelings?
If a poster asks for opinions, they're opening themselves up to opinions, and some of them probably wont be kind.
But if all someone is doing is sharing, is it that hard to keep your thoughts to yourself? Especially when those thoughts involve telling the person that their item is junk, but, look at what I have, this is the real deal!
Do these people go up to someone who has just bought a new dress or has a new haircut and say "I sure hope you didn't spend much for that, it's ugly, but, look at mine, this is what you should be aiming for".
Do some people think they're such authorities that everyone should bow down to what is after all, just their opinion?
A $50,000 bracelet can be just a cold piece of metal to someone who has no connection to it, while that $20 vermeil chain might mean the world to them, for many reasons.
It's just jewelry no matter what the price and we're all experts when it comes to what we love, and what we love is different and that's part of the fun.
