@Shelbelle wrote:I still wear my 14K Singapore chain I got on the Q in 1995, with a pendant on it, I paid $49 for it, 24 inch.
I have a 16 gram 14k bracelet I bought on the "other" channel. $150 about 15 years ago. Those days are gone.

Ultrafine , had some gold clad # J399788 that were reasonable .
14K or 18K chains are extremely pricey .
Look at the prices and how thin the chains are at

I started shopping on QVC just for gold jewelry. Imperial Gold and Eternagold had fabulous pieces. Yes, Lisa Robertson was my favorite host, especially when she did her gold shows from Italy. Sadly, I have not bought any jewelry from her since she left QVC, as most of what she sells is just costume jewelry, not fine.
I used to go to the QVC outlets and buy gold earrings as gifts for everyone--$49.00 per set!!
I also bought Michael Anthony gold jewelry on HSN, but it was all 10K, and I got rid of most of it. Too bad--it would be worth a LOT more now!
For a while I had some great gold bargains from Stefano Oro on ShopHQ. He is now on JTV, and still sells gold chains. You have to watch for specials and coupons.
I agree today's gold cost is exorbitant, due to many world events.
Most jewelry dealers try to sell gold by weight, so bargains are more rare than in the past. QVC often does not post the gold gram weight, which is annoying to me. I always have a limit of what I will pay for jewelry.
Good luck with your search!

every now and then where you could make a purchase at a pretty good price. They mad e great graduation and wedding gifts.
Go to Sarraf.com. I've shopped with them off and on for 15 years and have never had a problem. Their jewelry is great quality and customer service is wonderful.

Ladies, I too share your sentiments concerning the gold prices of the past. I'm glad I didn't sell my gold back about 20 yrs ago when costume jewelry came into fashion and real gold seemed to go out of style.
Back then many of my friends sold their herringbone and rope pieces. Glad I kept mine because now yellow gold is back and I updated them by adding a pendant on each one and layering the different lengths.
The neckchains that cost me $20 a gram are now selling for between just over $100 a gram to sometimes over $200 a gram. Even the pieces sold on e bay are cost prohibitive. smh

When my great niece was born, I gave her my 18k Italian horn on the chain my grandmother had given to me for my christening. I told my nephew that it comes from Reagan's great, great grandmother. When her baby sister was born, my sister and I gave her our mom's Italian horn on one of mom's chains.
I was/am a jewelry addict. I also worked a 2nd job at Saks 5th Avenue in the fine jewelry department, which didn't help! I don't really wear my gold pieces anymore, but do wear silver bracelets that never come off.
One is a faux diamond tennis bracelet in 18k white gold that my dad had brought back from his last trip to Italy about 30 yrs ago. My cousin, who I never met, but was the same age as me, had picked it out. I've had that bracelet appraised about 4 times. Another is a sterling silver bracelet that I bought on my first trip to Italy in 2010. At that time, the Euro was much stronger than the US$ and I know I paid too much for it. But it was my first trip to Italy, I had to come home with jewelry!
I also wear a David Yurman gold/silver link bracelet. I won it in a contest at Christmas time when I worked at Saks. At the time, it was $450, I got to get that appraised too.
Also wear some old Judith Ripka and JAI bracelets. I'm living dangerously!
I haven't priced gold or silver chains/earrings in years. I would probably freak. I'll keep my blinders on for a bit longer.

I still have some gold pieces. I have a beautiful Imperial Gold cobblestone bracelet and a reversible omega necklace. I can't even imagine how much they would be today.

I miss watching those gold presentations but I'm not surprised they're a thing of the past, with the current price of gold. Also, what they were showing after the price began to creep up were chains so lightweight they didn't even bother including the gram weight in the graphic. And don't forget the gold over a resin core, somehing else they left off the graphic.
I really miss the Imperial Gold presentations, but with the weight of those beautiful pieces, I'm not surprised. Someone here mentioned that they were selling IG silver. I would've loved to see that, but missed it.
